Yes the high kicks to Toops have been pretty much put on the back burner for most of the season - when they were tried they were either too short or too long and Toops spilt a few as well - I still don't know why teams don't do the Peard bomb - put the bomb up near the posts - always had success with these in the mid and late 70's.

As far as short kicks off's go been saying that for yonks including using the Cronin grubber kick off's/ the short grubber that goes 10 metres/ belting the ball towards the sideline- It's beyond madness to keep kicking off the same way when the other team is racking up the points - oh lets kick off left this time for something different as they may drop it.

The way ahead for the Chooks is simple

High set completions and low errors ( missed tackles/ minimal penalties and set restarts conceded ) plus a straight line of defence that moves at speed and cuts down the oppositions time and space with the ball and a good kicking game.

If they do the above they will give themselves a chance in any game and teams will have to beat them not the Chooks beating themselves as a result of high errors/ low set completions/poor defence and a poor kicking game.

I feel like a chip kick in goal REPEAT REPEAT REPEAT wins the comp!

Does so much damage in making the other team tackle over an over again turns the momentum, all of a sudden there giving up 6 agains!

I remember cleary did it to us an we were too gased to continue the Roosters game

Verills needs to be more crafty in a cheeky grubber in goal will help us win being close to the line

Im pretty sure we are last in the comp for repeat set's! Need to fix this stat in order to win close final games!

            LOLz dank meme, bruh!

IMO Walker should run 100m backwards every game just to make sure we don't lose any points in the last 5 mins.

Chooks were 16th in set completions and now 15th - need to really improve this going forward as when the completions are low that is when they get into trouble in games .

Can't afford to give the opposition more sets and greater than 50% possession than they should have as it puts a strain on the defence and they then concede points on a regular basis in a game when this happens.

Chooks possession % average per game is below 50% - 49.2% - needs to be greater than 50% one would say.

Robbo and the Roosters trust just won't try short kickoffs...madness.....in the Souths thrashing in 2020 and the Storm thrashing this year,Easts failed to even try short kickoffs...crazy

the Roosters have one of the best jumpers/leapers in Daniel Tupou...yet we fail to utilise his skills!!...why???

A short kickoff can give a team a massive advantage..if it comes off.....it gives possession, around half way...and it means that the opposition is defending..not attacking..

if Easts are to win the competition.....using Daniel Tupou's jumping skills can help achieve it

the same old same long kickoffs just don't cut it any more.....

Yeh i agree. Tricks to break the regimented teams play book.
short kick offs= creates uncertainty in their next kick off receive set up. Especially the first kick off.
Kicking from the scrum. unaware defenders rushing up to stop your advance. Have to turn and chase. Fullback up in line or packed in the scrum
Push in the scrum and win it.
or just do what the top 3 do and have 10minutes waves of hi intensity rushing up defence and when attacking fast play the balls ...knees elbows... Surender tackle almost attack.

I take your broader point mate, and agree we need to be more adventurous tactically.

Even moreso pulling on the play-offs with guys like Hutch and Copley in the backs. We may lose a trick or two there on comparative individual skills.

But TIT....he could be cooking us nice and slow this year, some good signs in recent weeks.

If you do a chip kick in goal & dont score you dont get a repeat its the grubber in goal that gets the repeat.
Snapn 1 are we gonna crush Penrith or not?

Bongdi, PVD and Tiesto say we've got it covered. Pemriff's no threat to Tiesto's Bongdi Wall.

I wonder wha the brothers Walker tactics are in these situations. I bet they would favour a deft little 10.01m kick restart.

being open to innovation is good but you can be too clever by half - we use the trapped ball in the scrum too much and clubs are onto it and parra put the push on last week forcing a knock on.
