This has been going on for years. IMO it all boils down to the fact that the Roosters are the most hated team in the NRL because of all the crap many have in their heads about them for their own stupid reasons. That makes them easy whipping boys and the safest bet for the refs to stay in good with most of the fans. If they get penalised a lot, it's because they cheat or are ill-disciplined. No question of refs getting it wrong or having conscious or subconscious bias, or the Roosters having less intimidating crowds than others. Then some wag came up the with 'they're giving away penalties on purpose!' and lots ran with it, even though there is no evidence and has been stringently denied by Robbo and more recently, Cooper, but you know rugby league media...what they say is always FACT, and the more they repeat it (the KISS principle) the more people believe it (like the salary sombrero bullshit). Then it was revealed we RECEIVED the least amount of penalties as well....apparently every team was on their best behaviour when they played us, but do you think that had any effect on people's prejudices? Even with evidence to the contrary, we're viewed as privileged, given favours by the refs, the NRL and the judiciary. When a Rooster beats a charge, fans of other teams get outraged when what it really means is they were hard done by in the first place by being unfairly reported.

Every fan will probably tell you their team is the most badly treated by refs, and every team in fairness, will have bad decisions against them, but the Roosters are the only team to have to my knowledge statistics to back it up. And the timing of decisions against them is frequently severe, made more severe with the 6-again rule. Will it ever change? Probably not. If you say anything, you're a whinger. All they can do is keep playing like Roosters and play well enough to either overcome bad decisions or be lucky enough to get a decent break.

You very frequently see refs coaching and instructing defenders in such a manner.

But he said nothing. Total silence. Then bins him.
        Exactly mate.

Did you see the same situation on Teddy after Manu made that break late in the game? Kenny and Martin deadset lying on him for a good 6 seconds intentionally slowing down the play the ball after we got momentum with the break and wasn't even deemed a six again or penalty. Just disgraceful refereeing tbh

Can the anti-Rooster deniers theorise on these stats?
          They'll find a way.

The stats are damming and reiterate what a lot of us on here have been whinging about for years that there is a clear bias towards us by some of those in charge with the whistle. Maybe a small part of that article by buzz has been brought about by the constant highlighting of those discrepancies.
It was no surprise to see that the pride of the league are on the other end of the spectrum but another interesting team on that list is the Storm who are middle of the road for penalties yet have implemented every illegal tackle in the game and are renowned for introducing the wrestle, food for thought for those that don't think that the league has a particular agenda as far as favouritism for certain teams to be successful.

Fair enough. But how many years would a single team need to be at or near the bottom of such an analysis before questions can legitimately be asked? Maybe not one or two, but twenty?

Anyway, I look forward to hearing from the usual people here how Ricko, Politis and Robinson should remove their tin foil conspiracy theory caps and accept that we deserve everything we get from the refs.
Good point. I wonder if Annesley was told our penalty differential was double that of the next closest team. Its not just that we are at the bottom, we are well and truly at the bottom.

So, THEY SHOULD STOP DOING IT!
Why spend our time doing something that's a big waste of time?
That is a definition of silly.
Instead we should compile a dossier of cases, with video evidence, of all the times the NRL' referees penalise us for things they don't penalise other teams for.
Then publish it the media nationwide.
                    Name names, supported by facts.
Start our own newspaper and tv channel if necessary.
People have been killed for far far less.

I also believe that we cop our fair share of 'evening up' the penalty count. Six against on the first tackle. Penalties when the game is over or the damage has already been done.
Its amazing that we have the success that we have.

Roosters to get penalised for being offside from the kick off this week. Haven’t seen one all year. The refs will be salivating at the thought of finding a new way to have a laugh.

I'm hopeful that maybe one day - perhaps after 50 years of this treatment? - that someone will stand up and admit there is a problem. I have a dream. Let my people go.

There was another article a few years ago, by Rothfield as well from memory. It was to do with how long since teams were awarded 7 or more penalties in a match. Every team was on 0,1 or 2 games since being awarded 7 or more penalties in a match. Meaning all 15 teams either received 7 that week, the week before or 2 weeks ago. We had gone 24 or 25 games I think since we had received 7. Guess what? We got 7 penalties the week after the article came out. It’s always been more about the penalties we don’t receive more than the ones we give away. If ever a stat showed bias, this was it. I would point this out to people and the morons would state.oh yeah but roosters give away penalties deliberately. I would try to explain this is about penalties received not conceded to no avail with most
