don't know how to take that. normally if there's a controversial decision but he thinks the ref has got it right he'll say it was the right decision because blah blah blah. it's an odd one

Not surprised. A bit like Robbo's post-match press conference. It wasn't raised there either with it being all about the last minute penalty.

Sorry to be pedantic but there’s a spelling mistake in your post. Anus only has one “n”.

        • Every second week there seems to be some sort of ref bias against us.
Whether its refs not blowing the whistle until a player is lying on the ground in agony with broken ribs or close to knocked out, the ref setting new standards by binning JWH for something that happens every game, the bunker completely missing head highs, penalty counts against us, you name it.

IMO, refs have too much power and the consequences are too great in this era of the game. Discretionary 6 agains with no accountability can mean teams get 15 tackles in a row, its too much on a team. Sin bins / send off should be reserved for clearly dangerous play and clearly professional fouls. Even a standard penalty is too great, a kick for touch gives 40 m and then the team gets a complete set. The 7 tackle set, its too much, it basically gives the attcking team the chance to get in the red zone.

Because our refs have so much power their bias can make a difference.

Compare this to say soccer. A free kick means almost nothing. Sure a penalty is a very big deal but these may occur once every 10 games. Throw ins are nothing, corners might give a team say a 20% chance of a goal. They have a very clear yellow and red card system. This all means the ref has minimal impact.

Even in AFL, a free kick is nothing, a line in (whatever its called) is 50/50, where they throw the ball up is 50/50. The ref has little impact.

Ours refs are deciding every second game with their 50/50 calls and their discretion.

Great post and I have been thinking the same thing for a long time.
How can we reduce the impact of the ref.
This deserves a thread all to itself.
I was actually hoping the 6 again would help but the lack of accountability is not working. Also sometimes a penalty should be given especially when the attacking team is stuck on their own line.

No he did not, and in future Annesley suggested the following process be applied when determining the validity of a contentious decision by a Referee.

"There are decisions that the referee or the bunker has to apply judgement and they have to make a decision. If you ask the fans and supporters of the opposition team, they would be saying it was 100 per cent right.

              Sounds fair.

Before Crowds come back whenever that will be all grounds should have a device installed on the back of each seat to enable the fans to be able to vote on contentious decisions adjudicated on by the ref/bunker with the most popular choice the one that is confirmed on the field by the Ref.

Those not in seats will be provided with an app for their phone so they can vote.

Agree with the proposed decision by the Ref/Bunker.

                Yes

                No

                Don't Know

                  I like that a lot.

You may need something a little easier to understand for Souffs fans though.

I tipped the Brisbane Lions in AFL in March..looking good Mickie..You are in charge of digging up this post later in the year and proving me wrong..

                      • Quite amazing the amount of our challenges that get overturned. I would also bet London to a brick that we have more tries sent up as no tries than anyone else.
How the escort on Manu wasn't penalised was criminal, young Sutton couldn't run back to the 20 quick enough to cover it up.
Nevermind us pushing refs to the limit, Randy Meisner wouldn't take us to the limits of the Sutton regime bias.

                        • We don't lay down like other teams. That's where our extra penalties are hiding..Had Teddy layed down when Ravalara come through with the knees we would have got the penalty and him binned.
Milking is a big part of the game like it or not.

I thought it was amazing not one commentator saw Joey run off the ball. A few Roosters players threw their arms up but nothing. Try Dragons!!
so glad the team stayed calm and lifted.
