One at the Sportsground in the early 60s - the time of Kevin Ashley (great second rower back then), Louis Neuman ( quality South African forward "Cape Coloured" as Apartheid used to categorise those who were mixed race - Howard supported Apartheid by the way) and Terry Fearnley. Souths supporters jumped the fence and the episode was reported as a near riot. I remember well because a bloke named Jimmy Faint and his brother, both quite well known thugs from Surry Hills, were arrested.

I remember fondly of being at Aussie Stadium during those years and having fights with souffs supporters because they were so terrible. The fights I witnessed and sh*t talking between our two clubs have always existed to me ever since I’ve been a fan our game and this dates back a long time.

There was still a rivalry, it just wasn't relevant because Souffs couldn't get near us at that time. The dislike has always been there. I remember Ron Coote telling the story of the letter he received from a rabbits fan back when he signed with us. The lady owned a pet rabbit they had affectionately named Ronny in his honor. In the letter she said how shattered she was that he had left Souths to sign with their mortal enemy. She finished by saying they had rabbit stew for dinner that week

Louis Neumann never played at Easts in the early 60s and wouldn’t have played with Terry Fearnley at the old sports ground. Louie signed in 67.
