FWIW, Rusty never wanted to leave the Roosters but Fulton unfairly mistreated him by favouring others and giving him very little game time.
The straw that broke the camels back for Russell was big shot Fulton belittling him in front of his team mates then they bombed out in the '81 semis. No way to treat a club legend and fan fav.

I know it's immoral to speak ill of the non living but i've NEVER liked Fulton. A pompous and obnoxious being just like his former BFF Hadley.

Remember at an end of season award night how glowingly Robbo spoke of Touma and how close they were not sure a run of injuries is all that is going on here.

Interesting to see how the next iteration of this Roosters staff go with Robbo losing his two closest staff in Fitzy and Touma.

Fair point hey... hard to know whether it's connected or if it was simply time for them to move on.

For example at work I lost 2 awesome managers and a senior who had all been there for 10+ years. All of them moved on to promotions and we're all still in touch as really good friends. You hear plebs making rumours about serious conflicts between us and stuff but it couldn't be further from the truth... I encouraged them to apply for promotions and gave them all glowing references. We all had a big sob together over a beer about how a perfect ~10 year run had ended but such things happen.

IMO unless you're Darius Boyd, you don't go around sniffing your #1 mentor's butt for 20-30 years. Opportunities come up and IMO most people's priorities are gonna be:
          1. Progressing to the next level, or something more interesting/challenging once they feel too comfortable (or get burned out).
          2. Feeding their family. If somebody threw an extra few hundred grand at me then let's be honest, I'd probably take it rather than saying 'something something loyalty and friendships'.

From Robbo's perspective, I think that working with the best rather than his best mates is also good for his development. While I'd love to see a team of (for example) Mini, Friend, Cords, Fitzy and Robbo... that group only knows so much (and they've all learned it together). It's good to rotate your most trusted advisers because it challenges your way of thinking and opens up new doors that the others wouldn't have found. I can think of quite a few clubs that are in big doo doo because they respect their old boys too much and guarantee them all jobs rather than pushing them to look around/develop...

              The ageless Ronnie Palmer perhaps??

Who remembers Touma's tackle on the pitch invader in 2019.

Bruce "Sloth" Gibbs or Darryl Brohman perhaps

Gibbs was well known for consuming jugs of beer not schooners - used to frequent the Lidcombe hotel back in the day and the Wests players would come in after training on Thursday Night - Thirsty Masters sure was thirsty downing schooners with the best of them - Boyd/Donnelly/Dorahy/Raudonikis/Cooper etc - Lamb's tipple was Vodka and Orange - triples

Yeah he's been around for ages and at least he gets to walk away with an unofficial premiership ring from 2019 ... he'll be missed but it might be a good thing to change the training dynamic up etc

No word on who the Roosters are looking at as a replacement for "head of performance/14th man on the field running interference" ?
