Week 1
Melbourne V Manly = Melbourne
Roosters v Titans = Titans
Panthers v Souths = Panthers
Parra v Newcastle = Parra


Week 2
Manly v Roosters = I was 50-50 on it
Panthers v Parra = Panthers

Souths v Manly = Manly
Melbourne v Panthers = Melbourne

Form aside, the way Penrith were celebrating after they beat the Storms was like they’d won the premiership. Contrast that to measured acknowledgment from the Souths players after their win, lead by Chookpen favourite Cody Walker makes me think Souths have the upper hand. Coupled with the Souths having the week off and Penrith playing two tough games in a row gives Souths the edge. Penriths defence was premiership-like last night. We’ll see how it plays out on Sunday

The major difference is that Penrith's game went down to the last second where as Souths had won by half time.

You don't celebrate like lunatics when you flog an opponent.

Penrith won't be celebrating too hard as the pain of last year's defeat will be very raw.

Totally agree. I was thinking at fulltime and watching the celbrations if Penrith had played their GF a week early. This was meant to be the 2021 GF and it came a week early for Penriff's revenge !
I see similarities to 2003 ...when after a year of having Claytons premiership thrown at us for 2002, we were expected to face off CBury in 2003 ...that came a week early and it was such an emotional charged prelim final that we wiped the floor with them, and we were flat in the GF ...forget Sattler' tackle, we were flat that game and no doubt we played our GF the week before.
I'm wondering if its the same for Penriff this year, I certainly hope not ....couldnt stand to see the vermin win it for Bennet and all the downtrodden Verminites !

2003 was probably the best Roosters side that I've seen. It really was the one that got away. And I agree with your assessment.

The footy gods were on Riff's side that night - Freddy's bung shoulder, that extremely overated Sattler tackle on Skinny Byrne, Riff playing with no expectation and playing their best game on the biggest day and of course the damn rain.

Also, nothing seemed to go right for us on the night - it was like the Souffs-Manly game on Fri, every freakin' bounce of the ball went Riff's way.

The most disappointing GF loss I've experienced along with the 1980 one.

I''m on the Riff bandwagon because they've played 3 intensely hard matches and they took out Melba. Souffs have got the easy draw. And apart from Luai, I don't mind their players espcially Yeo and Too who are great players and look like great blokes. Souffs only decent players are Cook and Murray, while the rest are d-heads. Unfortnuately, I reckon Penrith will be drained physically and emotionally. If South's were coached by MaGuire or Arthur, I'd back Penrith, but in Bennett, they have the master. They'll be primed.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I see a pretty comfortable Souff's victory.

Kinda but I'm gonna have to be willing the riff over. Can handle that way better than a vermin win. Think it might be a good physical game with the vermin trying to out muscle and end up with binnings, send offs, players on report......well hoping anyways.

Whilst I preferred Melb to be Souffs GF opponent because I'd be more confident of the vermin getting beat against the Storm ...the good thing now that its Penriff will be the media wont be totally championing the Vermin all week. If it was Storm v Souffs, no doubt this whole GF week we would be hearing how Souffs are the people's team and everyones second team and all of Sydney is behind them, and they are the good guys, underdogs, downtrodden, pride of the league yadda yadda yadda vomit !
At least now that its the Riff, I expect the media to be a little more even in its support !

I've had an ongoing argument with my brother in law about Coogee being in the eastern suburbs for over 30 years.
I'll be supporting the riff but I think it's a coin flip as I'm a huge fan of the week off, if my memory serves me correctly I think the cowboys are the only team to have lost the first week and come back to claim the title.

The boundaries were moved in 1937 at the urging of a Souths diehard on the NSW board. From 1908 till then, everything east of Anzac Parade, all the way to La Perouse, once belonged to the Eastern Suburbs Roosters. The Roosters once owned much of what is now South Sydney territory.

There was an article published in the Daily Telegraph a couple of years ago in relation to the rivalry between the clubs.

So we have 2 clubs in the GF who had significant and deliberate COVID protocol breaches by players Arrow and Koroisau go virtually unpunished. And a club who “medically retired” 2 players, as Rothfield reminded us, went on to play UK super league - Inglis, and participated in a grueling SAS style challenge - Burgess, whilst they managed their roster by signing Mitchell and Arrow. And a player in Cleary who shoulder charged an opponent a few weeks ago, and then spear tackled another, go completely unpunished. Yet, Verills, Radley and Crichton get lengthy suspensions for playing footy. Doesn’t seem fair. And arguably corrupt.

ask any cab driver, ask any real estate agent, ask anyone who can read a street directory ...they'll tell you Coogee is located in the eastern suburbs of Sydney.
Sydney has spread so much over the years, 'South' Sydney is now the shire !
