“I think there’s an acknowledgment by the Roosters and Melbourne that it just won’t be happening.”

However, the latest Newscorp report claims Smith will meet with the Roosters on his way back to Melbourne. They won’t be able to offer the same money as the Titans or Dolphins, but can offer the prospect of playing for premierships.

So he's not coming to the Chooks but he is going to drop in on his way back to Melbourne. That makes sense!!!!
If Smith doesn't re-sign with the Storm he will sign with a QLD club for 2023 - either Titans or Dolphins and not with the Chooks I predict

He's also got close family and friends settled in South-East Queensland so the offer from either Titans and the Dolphins just seems to attractive to pass over especially if we can't match the offer salary wise.

In my opinion, him meeting with the Roosters on his way back down to Melbourne may just be a formality and to also up his value in negotiations.

      • We love to bag our dummy halves. Friend copped it from 2015 - 2017 (prob even in 2018), now its Verrils' turn. To go all Cheesey might leave us short a prop in coming years.

        • Bonetti was our last great 9. Discuss.

Friend was a better all round player.

Yep. Friend was a class above Bonetti and it ain't even close.

I'd argue that Craig Wing was even better. In his prime he was absolutely world class and a devastating ball runner.

Friend the greatest Rooster of the three by far; but Wing the best player.

Wing's versatility in a way has definitely impacted the way he is remembered in my opinion. I think if he played 7 or 9 his whole career he would be remembered as one of our greats

Id say signing with south’s halfway thru 2007 with Russell Crowe and a cake impacts more on how I remember him

I recall Wing struggled to have any impact in a game when asked to make much more than 30 tackles. Friend was a more complete hooker from that perspective.

                      • Recently watched some old games with Wing at dummy half. Terrible service from him with lots of passes behind players. Jake Friend won us two grand finales. Only two great hookers I can think of - Jake Friend and Johnny Lang, in my opinion.

                        • Brandon Smith, Jake Friend, Craig Wing & Simon Bonetti are & were all top players.

                          • Johnny Lang was the best hooker I ever saw play for Easts. Created so much from dummy half, tough as nails, scored plenty of tries from close to the line. It was a different game back then, and hookers didn't kick often. Bonetti was a very solid all round tough no nonsense hooker, Wing was a champion X factor player, wasted at hooker, should have been out halfbabck for 10 years, Ricky Numbnuts Stuart though he knew better, but had to play him somewhere

                            • I loved watching Craig Wing play back in the early - mid 2000s and especially when he was with us when we won our premiership in 2002 and then our two grand final appearances after that in 2003 and 2004 but for me I always suspected his true loyalty and heart !

He started off at Souffs and finished up there before ending up in Rugby Yawnion. He's not in the same legendary Roosters elite players status for me compared to Minichiello, Freddy, Aubbo, Friend or Cordner.

                              Just my opinion.

Stuart pushed Wing out. For Finch. Dumbest thing ever.
