Radley's on close to half per year what Smith's new deal will command, and the Storm are smart enough not to pay him overs and some other club will fall into him out of desperation. If he's greedy enough to leave. And Radley's a better player. Smith at anything like a $1,000,000 a season is a terrible buy and only for the desperado clubs.

And Radley is contracted only to the end of 2023. Injuries permitting he'll be close to the best player in the comp by then and will require a serious upgrade. I love Radley. Smith would be a blow in overpaid gronk.

Keighran is a fringe first grader at best. Marshke is below that. Yet to see if Verrills can develop his game and come back from some bad injuries. Yes keep Manu....but fark me find a way to get Smith here !!

          Yes.

He is the mongrel and attacking player we need.
But i feel his price ruled us out and we went for Watson instead....

I disagree on the latter, i think the opportunity to sign a former easts boy who mind you is still young-ish and has skill to offer plus probably us staying up on the sunshine coast with a few other teams at the one hotel and i believe newy were one of those teams so probably made it easier.

Signing smith does complicate things though with Watson, if we were to sign Cheese.

I think if we signed Smith that would spell the end of Verrills at the club. He would be told he would be free to negotiate and we would run with Smith at starting 9 and Watson and co as cover. Watson would come on and replace Radley then when Smith needed a spell you could bring Rads back on and move Watson to 9

But if you look back to the start of the year we upgraded Sam. Now with all things considered at that point we desperately needed to lock him down with what was happening around Jake and his playing future but even so it was well known that Smith was considering a move so altogether this move seems weird.

You would imagine with what his agent has just come out publicly basically calling for the teams who are interested to submit offers or at the very least an enquiry after Nov 1 the clubs like the Dolphins or NZ with serious amount of cash will overpay and get him at the highest bid, we don't need to do that and possibly our interest was just that, an enquiry and nothing more.

I’m assuming you know more on the story? Anything you can share?

His agent basically said "put the highest bid in" so they're definitely going to aim for a million a year and at that coin I'd rather we kept Joey and if Joey leaves then I don't think Brandon Smith is the guy to pin that money on either

I think Melbourne will get close enough to offers received plus the competitive nature of there team and coach. I think we would be first choice outside of Melbourne due to our systems and coaching profession plus consistant finals contenders. I thought I saw an article about him where it was stated that the Bulldogs, Titans and Warriors were after him and preparing offers and he cheekily replied, Gee they are all going good at present....He will want to play in a competitive team which the above 3 are not.

B Smith would be a huge risk...the bloke has form

Stick with Verrills....remember we won a comp with him

The dolphins under Wayne look hard to knock back… especially if they can grab his coke mate Cameron Munted Munster

Could Smith be a Jake Friend style replacement, like for like?
Is this what the club has in mind?
I'm not sure of Smith's workload, at the moment he doesn't even play 80 minutes every week. Surely he would have to play 80 to demand big money, you cant have a $1M player sitting on the sideline for 20 minutes.
