I think player managers have alot to do with it, as well as the clubs putting prices on positions instead of individual players.
This fullback money bs is killing off the specialist centre, they way it's headed rep teams will be fielding 3 club fullbacks

Gutherson the year before too wich didn't work out well .
it was easy for Latrell as he has played plenty of centre , as for Turbo he is just a freak so I'm not sold on it just yet.
Centre would be the hardest place to defend on the field imo . If you dont play there week in week out It could easily backfire.

What happened to "I'll play wherever the team needs me"?

Imagine a player approaching Jack and saying...I'll play but only at fullback. Would've copped a boot up the Khyber pass en route to reserves, at best.

What I love about Brandon Smith is that he's a high energy player who inspires his teammates - similar to our own Victor Radley - who is always involved in the game and can affect the outcome on both sides of the ball.

Smith is a unique attacking threat. He would have to be the most dangerous dummy half ball runner I've seen from close range; as evidenced by his 11 trys from 24 games last year. When he runs from close range he's just so damn hard to stop. And if you do stop him, it was still probably a run that saw him poke his nose through and scatter a couple of defenders like ten pins which leads to a compromised defensive line for the next play.

Smith is also versatile and can play lock forward (and even prop). Basically just shove him on the field as a middle forward and he'll run like a lunatic and go forwards every time. Rugby League is a game of momentum more the ever before with the 6 again rule - how often do teams score 3 or 4 quick unanswered trys - and Brandon Smith is basically Mr Momentum as an attacking threat.

Also he's a defensive weapon. The dude just loves the contact and smashes blokes. There aren't many defenders like him who love to hit; and you can't underestimate how much these guys inspire their teammates and set the tone for the defensive line. The Storm missed him so much when he went off after 20 minutes in the Prelim.

Seriously can you imagine him on the field at the same time as Victor? They'd be the Bash Bros. But more than that they're the two most dangerous attacking middles in the game and would wreck opposition teams.

I would love for us to keep Joey Manu, but I wouldn't at all be upset if come 2023 we effectively replaced Manu/SST with Momo/Brandon Smith on the books.

Late 1995-96 was the Whereat/Jorgensen combo. They never set the world on fire but 1996 was the first successful year for the Roosters for 9 years.

I realise that my opinion won't carry much weight, however, I am disappointed Joey is not considering what the Roosters and Trent have done for him over the years. I feel that being involved in the culture of Rooster brotherhood that he would want to stay within that culture and, of course, the opportunity to win another Premiership with the Roosters. He certainly won't at the Warriors. Money is not everything.

I can't understand why people jump to wild conclusions like this.

How do you know what Joey is or is not considering? I haven't seen 1 first hand account of a conversation with Joey about his future. Everything is just speculation or clickbait journalism and some of the crap that I've read on here about him and writing him off as already gone, when the fact is we don't know.

Personally I have faith that, after considering all of his options, he will choose to stay. I have no idea if that will happen but until the club or Joey says otherwise that's what I'll hope for. And if he decides to go, I'll be disappointed but I'll wish him well, say thanks for your efforts here and hope he doesn't save his best football to play against us.

At this stage he's still a Rooster so let's support him like one.

He has achieved alot already at 25, he might be like Semi Radrada and give the money to his family . I get the feeling Joey wouldnt be just thinking about himself when it comes to his next contract.

In other Rooster related news, Bobby Goulding, our one time Rooster for a Week has early onset dementia and is part of a class action regarding Super League's failure to properly manage head injuries in the past. The possible legal ramifications of this, and of others no doubt in the pipeline, are enormous. Young men volunteer for contact sport and, consequently, the risk is theirs alone but the management of injury is another thing altogether.
