Players cannot do what they were doing 20years ago (or even 10 for that matter). This is a statement from the NRL.

The game will go on and will not miss him being there in any shape or form.

The part I never got was that he thought he played some role in the Panthers winning the grand final. Just blatantly ignoring the fact that he was woeful whilst Cleary was out injured and a massive contributor to their mid-season form slump. Throwing his teams success back in the faces of those who were critical of his off-field actions was just bizarre and nonsensical.

They wouldn't have sacked him if he was tearing it up onfield. Clubs only sack overpaid and under performing players. If a team wants to keep a badly behaving player, they send them to rehab.
