IMO the Cheese had every right to start negotiating with other clubs because the Drizz had already quite publicly decided that Grant's their #9. Won't say much more about that but I think they've asked him to leave through their actions.
I mean say my boss hired a 22 year old new grad to take my position and said I could support them into the foreseeable future. They may well be a gun lawyer, but to me that's basically saying 'mate... time to look for another job'.
So Smiddy's done that, been offered big $$$ and has made it clear that the idea of playing elsewhere excites him. No sour grapes there from him (none at all) but if I were his manager, I woulda long ago conceded that asking a Dally M #9 to play second fiddle to a much hyped youngster isn't a very enticing offer.
These things happen. Do you reckon the Drizz will be mature enough to give him an early release for 2022 and focus their efforts elsewhere? IMO this is the best option for both clubs as they can use the money on somebody else and we can start using a guy in his preferred position.
