  • Can Smiddy get an early release?

IMO the Cheese had every right to start negotiating with other clubs because the Drizz had already quite publicly decided that Grant's their #9. Won't say much more about that but I think they've asked him to leave through their actions.

I mean say my boss hired a 22 year old new grad to take my position and said I could support them into the foreseeable future. They may well be a gun lawyer, but to me that's basically saying 'mate... time to look for another job'.

So Smiddy's done that, been offered big $$$ and has made it clear that the idea of playing elsewhere excites him. No sour grapes there from him (none at all) but if I were his manager, I woulda long ago conceded that asking a Dally M #9 to play second fiddle to a much hyped youngster isn't a very enticing offer.

These things happen. Do you reckon the Drizz will be mature enough to give him an early release for 2022 and focus their efforts elsewhere? IMO this is the best option for both clubs as they can use the money on somebody else and we can start using a guy in his preferred position.

I assume players strat getting salary from 1st Nov. Is it monthly or quarterly? If so, the storm have already commenced paying him so as each month goes by its cheaper for us getting him this year.

No amount of money would entice the Storm..they would want a gun in return

He still can transfer by mid year, so lets not rule out him requesting an early release due to game time or being told to play lock etc, or if the storm see an attitude issue they could piss him off early. Yes they have said not until 2023, but the Storm can only take so much before they lose patience with him.

Didn't we say something similar about 'he who shall not be named' when he signed with Souths?

Yea but I would then question the signing if he does that…. Trent wouldn’t sign someone like that. Yes I think he hasn’t handled this great but I don’t think there was any maliciousness just naive

Even if the drizz did release I doubt we would have the money to accommodate him for this year. Cord, friend liu all have had their money spent this season on upgrades and apart from cord were on modest contracts. My guess is that weee giving sst money to smith next year, so barring the loan system, smith won’t be at roosters in 2022. If drizz released him he’d go to a club woth the salary for the year, much like tpj

So the club is calling him a liar about their culture. I think the early release is 50/50

                        I don’t think so.

I would say we are giving him SST and Verrills money.

Rumour that Robbo has also invited Bellamy over for dinner, and is expected to ask Bellamy to "pass the Cheese please".

So the Storm might cut the cheese.
