So Smiddy's done that, been offered big $$$ and has made it clear that the idea of playing elsewhere excites him. No sour grapes there from him (none at all) but if I were his manager, I woulda long ago conceded that asking a Dally M #9 to play second fiddle to a much hyped youngster isn't a very enticing offer.
These things happen. Do you reckon the Drizz will be mature enough to give him an early release for 2022 and focus their efforts elsewhere? IMO this is the best option for both clubs as they can use the money on somebody else and we can start using a guy in his preferred position.
If the roles were reversed & Smiddy had been developed by the Roosters as a 17YO & was now the best 9 in the game & he went & had a meeting with Melbourne & then whilst in Melbourne did a podcast & said that he looked at the Melbourne jumper & just wanted to win a comp in that jersey you would be cursing him.
I want him at the Roosters BIG time but jeez Im disappointed in some of the stuff he has come out with.
When he got busted earlier this year for cocaine what was your stance on that?

- Only a really weird manager would keep somebody who doesn't want to stay.
- If a workplace demotes a senior and puts a gun junior in their place, they're asking them to leave.
- The feeling seems mutual, hence why I think a release is possible.

I can't see the difference between the Latrell & Smith situations.
Latrell wanted to go to Souths so he could play football with his aboriginal mates .He had one year left on his contract , to play with the Roosters. We let him go early, i) Because he wanted to leave ii) It was in the best interests of both parties to let him go, and grant him an early release.
Exactly the same situation exists with Smith and the Storm. They have said the situation is untenable and he has insulted the Storm club, the coach, and all Storm players have been disrespected.
Smith wants out since he doesn't want to play second fiddle to Grant. The big Storm press release after the podcast suggested the Storm were appalled, furious over his comments so there is no turning back.
Unless of course what the Storm said in the press release was a whole lot of bullshit, which they now want to renig on..
Seems to me that is the case - and they want him to play for the Storm in 2022.
So how is that beneficial to both parties? if what you read in the press is right, Storm have insulted him as a second string player, and club, fans and coach want him to go.
Its all B/S
I smell a rat in all of this. I reckon Bellyache and the Storm have had second thoughts about losing Smith. That's why they want him for 2022 They have finally come to their senses and realize what a great player he is . They will re-think all that crap about Grant being first choice hooker, and if I were the coach ( you don't have to be Einstein, just watch the last Prelim ) to realize that Grant is way, way way overrated .
The Storm will make a big play to try to retain Smith, I reckon that's a given.
As nutty as it may seem, I think Smith and the Roosters are far from a done deal.
Watch this space.
