So let's give them another three letter acronym in DSF. Doubt he will jump ahead of Baker.
I don't want Sam to go but nobody knows how he is feeling. He was no doubt thrilled at being our first choice hooker after biding his time behind Friendy.
Think about it.
It will be a forward that is in our starting pack & its not gonna be JWH, Radley, Collins or Crighton.

Like with Suaalii and J-Moz, it's up to the releasing club to sort out their own books. We're the ones offering them ~$500k+ extra under the cap for 2022. They get that as cash, not as some cr@ppy store voucher than only works in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney.
They should go sign Arrow, Burgess, Knight, Murray...etc as they're all better cultural fits.

You are carrying on as though Storm are carrying all the aces. Think about the players that Roosters received from Souths in exchange for Latrell.

Like you said if the Roosters pay them 500 or 600k towards their salary cap next year then yes they can try & buy Arrow, Burgess, Knight, Murray...etc but the speculations was about if Smith was released which Rooster player would they want in exchange, If the Roosters can fit him in under the salary cap next year then there is no need to let anyone go.

The Chooks & Melbourne are IMO the best run clubs they're both very very well run & Melbourne will want either his full salary to be paid by the Chooks or a player swap to the same value. The both clubs are sort of holding all the aces, its the 2 smartest clubs doing business.
In regards to Latrell I cant remember what his contract was. Did he have a year to run on his contract when he didnt sign to renew in 2019?
If he had a year to run on his contract with the Chooks for 2020 then Souths would have had to pay his whole contract out to the Roosters so the Chooks wouldnt be getting any exchange from Souths.

Latrell was similar situation with a year to go. What we learnt from that is it is toxic to hold onto a player that is not happy with the club, and the longer you hold on the more of your salary cap disappears through their ongoing wages. I suspect Roosters would be happy to bide their time for a few weeks with Storm continuing to pay his salary.

I think they will form a great combination.
If anyone is to go for mine it would be Sitili. Verrills offers much more than he does.
Watson is our 14. There is no place for Verrills.

We don't need him for 2022 but they don't want him (allegedly).
They won't keep his salary cap in their books and make him play out the year in reggies.
DSF was sarcasm but I doubt we would give up anyone who is more or less a top 20 player. So DSF is actually an option. Might even be a 12 month loan player to give them experience like THT.
And remember the Roosters actually have a good relationship with the Storm so anything is possible.
I don't believe this BS in the media that the Storm won't give us Smith to give us a leg up.

Chooks had 3 at the start of 2021- Friend/Verrills/Lussick for instance - 2 of them recognised starters in Friend and Verrills - Lussick also started his fair share of games in 2020.
If as you say they can't have two starting NRL hookers what happens if the only starting one sustains a season ending injury - you have to change the non starter into a starting hooker and then have the third string hooker play regular NRL as well for the 2 dummy halves rotation that coaches favour.
Watson may play some dummy half but i feel he would be a double utility - be bench cover for both forwards and backsLast edited by King Salvo; 12-07-2021, 07:14 PM.

RTS is the one departing marquee player who I remember us holding onto. Not saying he was a d!ck about it but it was a super awkward year because nobody could talk to him about it or change his mind... it was a done deal and put us in a really hard place (right after Mini had trained him up + given him his blessing). IMO we only decided to hold onto him because we had a good deal and there was no backup plan. He was our plan for when Mini retired and Latrell was still a kid. Slime-Ankle didn't fill his boots either...
Drizz? They have Harry Grant and have chosen him long-term. I think they'd be quite happy to get Smith off their books early so that they can chase replacements for Finucane and the like. For a few years they've been lucky to have double-ups (or better) for everybody. Example...
- Smith, Smith and Grant
- Slater, Munster, Shyssenhoosen and Hynes
- Finucane, Bromwich x 2, Proctor, Kaufusi, Solomona, Hoffman
They're used to having a team where a rep player slots into every single position when another rep player's injured. Now that a few players are gone, I reckon they need some replacements as their stocks are starting to look thin (by Drizz standards, which are admittedly quite high). What's B-Smith on? $600k+ I'd say... IMO they don't need a player NOW to replace him. What they need is a war chest to draw upon before the transfer deadline (no rush). They'll play hardball and try getting us to pay for him but TBH the worst outcome for them is to pay him for ~2 months, have that come outta their cap and then release him. A quick release is in their best interests...Last edited by ism22; 12-07-2021, 05:51 PM.
