Can Smiddy get an early release?

In general, I don't think any club wants to give a player all their secrets + invest in them for another full year when they've signed elsewhere.

RTS is the one departing marquee player who I remember us holding onto. Not saying he was a d!ck about it but it was a super awkward year because nobody could talk to him about it or change his mind... it was a done deal and put us in a really hard place (right after Mini had trained him up + given him his blessing). IMO we only decided to hold onto him because we had a good deal and there was no backup plan. He was our plan for when Mini retired and Latrell was still a kid. Slime-Ankle didn't fill his boots either...

Worked out better for us in the long run because we ended up down that 1 year, had the flash in who did really well for us, then following that Teddy came in. Would trade RTS for Teddy any day of the week, look at what we've gained with him and where RTS ended up at the warriors (not a single premiership).

People here seem happy to release Verrills, which I think would be a huge mistake. Smith can't play 80 minutes, and is not as good a dummy half as Sammy V.
I think they will form a great combination.
If anyone is to go for mine it would be Sitili. Verrills offers much more than he does.

Sux big time Kid. I love Sam but superstars win you premierships. Smith has as much influence on a game as any other modern day player. He has x-factor and can turn a game on his own. You can’t say that about too many players.

I admire you loyalty to Sam but I want more premierships.

I am more concerned about Freddie Freeman wearing the pinstripes of those darn yankees as they have targeted him as a priority signing once signings can re-commence.

Wont go down well in Georgia though as they ain't too fond at all of those dang yankee folk up north.

mmm didn't Verrills play in the 2019 GF that the Chooks won including scoring the first try - became the starting hooker as well for the last 9 games and throughout the finals series. Had a disrupted 2020 with the ACL and 2021 with the ACL requiring some further surgery and the detached retina.

There are a lot of players that have far far more influence in games than Smith though one has to say - The Storm for example - Hughes/Munster /Papenhuyzen /Olam/Welch and even Grant to name a few. Finucane now at the Sharks was also an influential player on and off the field.

I think people equating Smith's signing to a Premiership need to take stock - one player doesn't make you suddenly a premiership winning side. It takes a squad of players

I can think of a few players that Robbo has brought into the side that didn't quite work out. However, Robbo has a pretty good record when it comes to star players. In fact, the ones below that come to mind have all won a premiership. We shouldn't be questioning what value Robbo sees in Smith.

You really think Olam and Welch are more influential than Smith? Sounds to me like you don’t watch much footy. So Sam V scores a try in the GF. Does that mean we shouldn’t replace him with an established superstar? You need superstars to win comps.

Without Cronk and Sonny we don’t win those premierships. I’m not saying Smith is that level but you won’t win a comp without such talent.
