  • What's doing with Karawalevu?

Saw some decent photos on FB just then (Roosters official) picturing the likes of Karawalevu, Naiqama, Keary, Lam, Sitili, Gussie, Tauks and [Whyte?]. Great seeing the boys get in some decent training before Christmas!

Question though... what's doing with Karawalevu? Is he on some sorta train and trial deal right now? Given all the hype, it'd be good to see him play some footy!

Vuate Karawalevu is in the extended squad but not on a train and trial contract- he's contracted to the Roosters on an extended squad contract and will play Jersey Flegg and if all goes well NSW Cup as well in 2022. He's training with the NRL side as part of his ongoing development.

2022 will be an important year for him as even being new to the game and still growing he has something about him that says NRL is not above him if he works hard and the Chooks put the time into his development and well being.

Not sure how accurate the following is - it say the Chooks have filled their 30 player Roster - 2 players on Development contracts and 8 in the extended squad - not sure apart from Vuate if any of the other 7 players are signed to extended squad contracts or are train and trial for these contracts

          For sure.

Looking forward to him doing a vodcast about this with some of the local boys one day. Saw one where Cords spoke about his dad driving him 4+ hour round trips. Then you read this dude:

          > Karawalevu and his parents drove from their home in Suva to Lautoka, which is one of three Centres of Excellence the Silktails have set up in their homeland.

I'm no Fiji expert but I had my honeymoon in Lautoka (didn't make it to Suva as it was too far, all along dirt roads, but got to Nadi and a few other places... damn they did amazing lamb chops at night... in the park at night, near the water and stuff, youcould buy this massive plate with cassava, sausage, chops, egg and BBQ sauce). Woulda been a massive trip for them IMO!

Amazing footy town though ay. Like I saw 15 year olds smoking durries on the street who were ripped as and were playfully doing ridiculously good long kicks/passes around the local park/streets as if a ~30-40m pass with a ridiculous amount of power/accuracy (passing across their body...etc) was not effort at all. If you're a cut above the local boys there then I dare say you've got NRL written all over you.

It's pretty cool seeing that a dude who's basically just raw talent (played ~20 games of league all up) is training with our firsts and could play for the Bears in North Sydney this year. IMO Robbo's the right coach to get this guy ready to replace Toops in a few years. Can't wait!

            Only played 20 odd games.
Development contract I assume for 2022?
