  • Official Match Day Thread: Roosters v Cowboys

Enough of the bullshit Roosters. It’s time to get serious. You’ve been nothing but disappointing in the opening rounds. We have a great squad who are capable of winning the competition. Show up tonight. Wear that jersey with pride. Play this “Roosters footy” that we are always hearing about but rarely get to see. Entertain us. Help us heal from that pathetic showing last week against a side we should have been motivated to thrash. Hold the bloody ball. Be patient. Don’t try and score off every play. Go down the middle first. Forwards the holiday is over. It’s time to get to work. Don’t embarrass us again. Shut all the doubters up. Fire up!

    GO ROOSTERS!

Rained early this morning and its overcast, so that has really dropped the temperature if it stops like this it will benefit the boys.

I'm not expecting us to magically come good overnight. However, I hope we're not pinned in our own half and penalised (or prone to stupid errors) when we FINALLY make it over the 50.

Not sure what I wanna see really! Patient or flamboyant?
        - Last game I felt that with 10 minutes to go (and being 3 tries down) we started mixing things up a little bit. It was too little, too late but I wish we'd tried some of that earlier on!!!

        - That said, I want us to be patient and build pressure. Very difficult when you're the team that's under pressure the whole time. However, we had chances (e.g. just before 1/2 time we got a tonne of penalties going our way and were only a try or two down). We NEEDED to score then and instead just played boring, '5 tackles and a bomb' footy... which contrary to what 'Tries off Kicks' may tell you, very rarely leads to people scoring meaties.

Naiqama enters the fray. I'm scared he's gonna do a Reece Robinson and never be seen again... which is really disappointing when you consider how talented both players are. Prove us all wrong buddy!!! Unless Smith's injured or has COVID, Naiqama's been picked based on how he's been training. He's athletic and not THAT old (only 33). As a specialist finisher, IMO he just needs to find some confidence. If he can't... Suaalii will arrive soon and I dare say Kevvie & Billy will struggle to make the 17 once that happens.

How good's Momirovski BTW! Shaping up as our buy of the season. Possibly says something about the Riff's culture/systems?

I always thought ‘Roosters footy’ was to be impatient and to try and score off every play? At least I felt that way when Mitch Pearce was here. Maybe it wasn’t him after all, it’s just our style

Seriously what are you guys seeing that's so special in Momo? Yeah Robbo said his like having another coach out there and I agree - he's about as quick as Robbo.

surely you can't be saying this based on this years games. He hasn't been bad - he has been 5.5 out of 10. We haven't had many better this year bar SST and Toops but Momo hasn't set the world on fire at all - boring player so far. Defence is his strength and he works hard in D I do agree.

Realistically it’s about poor execution, poor completions and ill-discipline.

He’s a solid toiler who defends well. Won’t let us down. Forced the supposed best centre in the game onto the wing in last years GF.

agree solid toiler - doesn't mean I'm off him - I just don't see why he gets comments like "buy of the season"

i can see Crichton in centres creating room for extra size on bench

cows won't be easy up there. it's not must win but the more losses a team gets the harder it becomes. looking to get the basics right and if they do that there's enough talent to win

Based on nothing, I reckon the no emotion policy against Souths was a mistake, this was it, the redemption, the normal fiery chaos of the universe on display. Instead we gave away the comfort of predictability to the bunnies, against the Cowboys, who chance their hand, with exciting as the moment presents game plan, backed by a go forward pack, thats gotta be us, us by 16.
