Why not?
Everyone else seems to be playing second rowers in the centres.
Fast men rang rings around our left side last night (except Toops).
That left side needs a big body at 3.
Someone capable of tackling the likes of Staggs and co on the Broncos' right side....one on one.
Sure you can jam in but if you are a lumbering back rower then its jam in he either steps or taps on and could be space exploited. But then again you are not a proponent of the jam in suffocating style defense which can work against the likes of Staggs, Manu, etc you like your centres and wingers to stand in defense near the sidelines lol......Originally posted by Bondi Boy

you need to be very quick to be able to defend staggs some of Momos misses was due to him giving him too much space and Staggs just gassed him.....

But on our right wing Johnston, Oates etc just fly down the line to score.
Trouble with our defence was/is that Walker was there trying to tackle Staggs too...instead of one our big forwards getting across.
Haas was there waiting for Butcher, but we had little Walker trying to tackle Staggs.
Staggs won.

On Manu's second try...
A superhuman effort to get to the line. If you look at the head on view, you can see Keary absolutely blowing up that Manu didn't spin the ball wide for whatever set play was planned. Quite understandably, Keary must have though Manu had no chance of burrowing through the wall of players in front of him.
Hypothetical - would anyone here trade Manu for Latrell?

Must say I'm a little worried about Teddy he looks a bit "heavy" to start the season and has lost all explosiveness and not breaking tackles like he used too.
Big positive out of tonight was the stints off the bench from Crichton and Baker both ran straight and hard.

Manu was in another realm...
Walker, Toops, Gus, JWH were very good and Baker was good off the bench.
Momo had just about the worst defensive game I have seen from a Roosters centre in a decade, since Jmoz gave SKD a bath when the Dogs flogged us by about 60 one day out at Homebush. But he deserves another crack as he has been solid in prior games is usually very good defensively and won a premiership at Riff.
Suaalii straight swap for Kev N.
We got the win, which is what the good teams do when they play shit and we usually struggle against the Broncos, so I am pretty happy.
I thought we were a lost cause at half time, but we turned it around, so well done......

Second half stats show the Roosters had control of the game and an overlooked stat is the play the ball speed which of course needs to go hand in hand with high set completions - Roosters average play the ball speed second half was 3.09 seconds vs Broncos 4.08 seconds - there is a definite correlation between how quickly teams play the ball and on other stats in the game - such as running metres and PCM/ Line breaks / missed tackles/errors/various penalties and set restarts conceded etc
Some second half stats
Average play the ball speed
2) Broncos 4.08 seconds - Roosters 3.09 Seconds vs 1st Half Broncos 3.3 seconds and Roosters 3.37 seconds
Set Completions
2) Broncos 75 % (12/16) - Roosters 73% (14/19) vs 1st HalfBroncos 87$ (21/24) - Roosters 84% ( 16/19)
Running metres
2) Broncos 690 ( PCM 211 ) - Roosters 910 (PCM 250 )\ vs 1st Half Broncos 953 ( PC 336 ) - Roosters 794 ( PC 289)
Line Breaks
2) Broncos 0 - Roosters 4 vs 1st Half Broncos 4 -Roosters 1
Tackles
2) Broncos 174 ( 26 missed ) - Roosters 130 ( 12 missed ) vs 1st Half Broncos 149 ( 5 missed ) - Roosters 215 ( 22 missed )
There wasn't a lot of difference in the number of sets and set completions in the second half and the Roosters i feel left points out there as well - incomplete sets in the Bronco's 20 or where the attacked fizzled out somewhat.
I know the modern way is to get a repeat set and bring fatigue and attrition into the equation for the defensive team but with line drop out you are then bringing the ball back again to the same area - why not try the old 1970'w Johnny Peard bomb? - The fullback defends in the line and those defending near the posts are the forwards.
I know the 7 tackle set rule is flawed and coaches are paranoid about conceding them but the Roosters have several good leapers in the team so it is worthwhile trying in my view since defences are at their best when defending in their own 20 nowadays especially with 13 in the defence lineLast edited by King Salvo; 04-09-2022, 02:51 PM.

HOW COME WE LET WARRIORS CENTRE Adam Pompey GET AWAY? We had him.
190 cm
101kg
Age 23
Plays in 4.
Surely we're not going to leave Momo at 3 and expect him to take on Pompey and Montoya...with Walker.
Radley made 42 tackles, but he should replace Momo to stop Pompey.
Radley could run hard thru the centres and score tries.
Replace him with at lock a bigger forward.Last edited by bondi.boy; 04-09-2022, 03:56 PM.

I thought it was a good game.
The Broncos have some top players like Staggs, Reynolds, Hass; Riki, Capewell, Billy Walters & Selwyn Cobbo. Cobbo in a couple of years is gonna be a rep player he is like Hodges & Latrell.
Kotoni Staggs was unreal & he played with so much aggression & he would have done what he did to Momo to nearly every outside back in the game if they were playing against him last night.
The Broncos were playing well & the Roosters were playing clunky & at the end of the day I think the Broncos were the better team for most of the game but the Chooks have strike players & a couple of them stepped up to win us the match.
Manu & Walker got the game won but again I thought Sitilli was the best Roosters forward, yeah I know he dropped a sitter but other than that he plays at a high level.
Its not JWH's go to try & use his head to leverage himself so he can win the battle of trying to hurt the opposition front rower. lol
The funniest thing about the incident though was JWH getting a knee to the head out of it.
