Yes, this is one area we are way behind the better sides, and even the not so strong sides like Brisbane - Cleary and Reynolds have massive boots to get them out of trouble in their own end; at the other end the kicks are high, pinpoint and right on the try line.
Hutch is about our biggest kicker from our own end.
It's really hard to win games, let alone premierships when your kicking game is weak.
Teams that win the comp always have a top notch goal kicker & top notch kicking game not just the long kicking game but the short kicking game getting repeat sets & I personally dont think Keary has it in him to do that consistently whilst he plays halfback. I think Walker is much more of a natural halfback who has a accurate short kicking game in his artillery.
Cleary is the best at all kicking as well as being the best at reading a game, he took over from C Smith & thats why Penrith are the top team.

What we can't afford right now is $$$ centres. Thus, we're banking on a few young guns to come good! This particular dude is a pretty safe bet. We're yet to see him absolutely tear a team apart but... I'd say his instructions right now are to focus on defence.
Our attack's like a new car with an unfamiliar clutch. We're still bunny-hopping around the carpark in 1st gear and accidentally jamming the b@stard into reverse at traffic lights. Once our drivers reach the stage where they can do some proper highway driving, our backline's gonna be better than Pemriff and Melbourne's IMO.

Manu never arrived with a bang and i can see big Joe walking the same path.
Who know what there combo on the right side could turn into after a dozen or so games.
Can't wait to watch this develope.

Walker playing 5/8 is not such a big change as he will run the ball whether he plays 6 or 7. Keary is a different matter being a natural ball running half when at 5/8 he has to now become a organising half playing at 7
Keary has played the majority of his career as a 5/8 outside organising halves such as Reynolds , Pearce , Cronk and Flannery for that one year.
Robbo favours an organising half one has to say.
So it is going be a WIP situation as you can't become a organising half overnight and maybe not at all - It's not something that can be manufactured.
Not sure if it's me but I see hesitation in Keary's game with scenarios of his natural instinct being to run the ball then the mind telling him no your playing an organising role at 7 you have to pass the ball etc. - the old passing before the line and or digging into the line the organising half is expected to do.
I assume Cronk is working with him on this ?
