No I dont watch the NRLW. If I had to chose between watching a Roosters NRLW game & a Roosters Harold Mathews game I would rather watch the Harold Mathews game.
I dont like watching women playing footy but I did sit back in disbelief a couple of weeks ago & watched Ashleigh Sims and Shanell Dargan have one of the best fights Ive seen.
Saw that fight as well, what a humdinger, both of them stood toe to toe and hammered each other from the first second to the closing bell. Do you reckon Tariq behaves himself or what!!
No. It’s a far inferior game to the men. Who wants to watch the number one tennis player in the world and then watch school kids play? But I will always support anyone in a Roosters jersey and was happy about the recent premiership.
Also can’t stand the sudden promotion of the game and the coverage and pretend hype it receives. I’d rather reserves get this hype and attention.
NRL Men's Comp is akin to watching the number 1 tennis player in the world? - mmm nah.
I used to watch those School kids play in the Amco Shield/Commonwealth Bank Cup/ Arrive alive Cup - I remember some bloke named Peter something playing in the Amco Shield mmm I heard he did alright later on in the Men's game.
Maybe when it's a full NRLW comp of 17 or 18 teams or even before they can follow the Tennis scheduling where they have the Men's and Women's singles Matches as the Main match on alternate nights - NRL Men's and NRLW as the main game on alternate weeks.
Not comparing apples with apples and only fools would compare NRLW to NRL as I touch on below.
I don't agree with your assertion that it's a low level of skill on display when compared to the Men's game though. - Not quite sure how you can compare part time players vs full time professional players and equate that to standard of play for starters.
Of course it would be expected that the NRL Men's standard would be higher with the players being full time professional as they receive all the assistance and then some from a raft of coaches/consultants etc for improving their game and all the necessary off field support -medical/rehab/dieticians/sport pyschologists etc etc etc.
The NRLW players are very much part time players who train 2 to 3 times a week and hold down a part time or reduced hour job during the week - they don't get the above full time support the NRL Men players receive being only part time players.
The standard of the NRLW has improved each year in what is a comp that has been operational for only 4 years.
2018/2019/2020 they only played 3 regular season games before the finals - NRL Men's teams take longer than 3 rounds to get back into the swing of NRL footy as players and as a team in any new season.
2021 season this year was a 5 game regular season so it gave NRLW teams a chance to improve as the season went on - Sydney Roosters for an example were a different team from their first game compared to their last game (GF) - they markedly improved as the season went on the more games they played.
I would strongly argue about the NRL Men's level of skill being considered high though- for an example last years 2021 NRL Comp would have to have been the worst one I can remember for a competitive comp -either NWSRL/NRL ones
The Top 3 teams were way in front of any of the other teams one has to say and even the Roosters with all their injuries , retirements , suspensions and disruptions etc could still finish 5th at the end of the regular season.
That would never have happened in NRL/NSWRL comps in previous years 2019 and back- the 2021 comp standard was pretty poor to say the least.- 2020 wasn't great either.
Many of those teams outside the 8 had/have a raft of players who are really not up to NRL level on a week to week basis despite being full time professional.
Basic fundamentals such as catching and passing the ball for an example - so many players drop the ball cold/make the same errors and cannot pass a ball from left to right or even right to left for that matter - poor tackling techniques and skill levels etc and these are well paid full time professional players who receive more than all the assistance they need to be solid NRL players at least on a week to week basis.
One only has to look at what full time professionalism has done for Women's cricket for an example - they have improved considerably and this will be the case for when NRLW players become full time professional too and they receive all the off field assistance as their Male NRL colleagues receive.
Hopefully none of the Wrestling/Judo and over structured multiple hit ups , out the back with decoys and kick on the last rubbish that has strangled the NRL Mens comp as a spectacle for way too long will creep into NRLW.
I enjoyed watching it this year. I couldn't watch it early. The standard was poor but it has improved and will improve further. So I will support it particularly if on before the mens game.
However Salvo you are loosing your credibility on this site with this one has to say crusade you are on. Let people have they own choice on the matter and stop trying to turn them to your way of thinking over and over and over again. It's getting dull. Dinosaur please give us a break that's 45% of your argument and misogynist is another 45% and again they are your assumptions.
95% of what you say is simply your opinion not backed by anything other than - well your opinions. You say how can someone compare skill levels between the professional mens game and newly semi professional womens game - well they can - just like that / the professional mens game is better - the semi professional woman's game isn't as athletic strong fast or skilful - it may never be - but that's okay - it will still be good to watch.
Womens tennis for example will never get to the speed of mens tennis as a whole and as a result be less skilful and less powerful. It just hasn't even with a long period of equal professionalism and pay. That's okay it's still well supported.
Womens cricket we have an unbelievable team they are head and shoulders above the rest in the game and that I also watch and enjoy. However it has to be said they can't bowl as fast - spin it as much or hit as far as the men - they drop more catches have have more misfields and mishits so it's not as good a quality as the men is it. You can compare - you can compare apples and oranges if you want no problem but you can also very legitimately compare the same sport played by men and women to each other regardless of how long they have been playing it. Some people compare that and go it's not the same league as the men so I am going to watch the men - big deal they can do that. They may also in 2,5 or 10 years time and every year in between continue to make that comparison and reevaluate their decision - that's great and then that's up the the game and the girls in question to change their minds and get them to say hey these guys are worth watching.
So why don't you leave it up to the game to speak for itself more than you. You won't change those that don't want to watch it now with your opinions and words - however over time if they can keep improving, the women who play the sports through their actions will.
While women, and men for that matter, can choose to play any sport they wish, personally I don't like and won't watch physically combative female sports.
Not because they lack skills, but, and I may be considered old school, because I don't get any enjoyment out of watching women being physically aggressive with each other.
In saying that, I don't watch boxing or UFC of either gender and I see little entertainment value in watching someone beat the crap out of another.
But, to each their own.
I understand what you are saying. I can't watch Law & Order SVU even though I love watching any courtroom dramas. Yet someone told me that out of all of the Law & Order franchises, that one is the most popular. The storylines are mostly about women and children getting assaulted. To me that is very disturbing and not entertainment. All those Hollywood blockbusters full of violence have never appealed to me either. I love a good mystery show and watch them all the time, but usually they are more cerebral and concentrate on the mystery itself, with very little violence shown as it's not necessary for the storyline.
Like others, if the Roosters didn't have a team, I doubt if I'd watch either. I'm just proud we had a womens' team from the get go, rather than just join up later like the other clubs. That's the part that makes me very happy and proud. That the Roosters again are leading the way with professionalism and polish and now also success..and more trophies... That's what Salvo is trying to say. The comp is not going anyway anytime soon despite the naysayers and will only grown more and more in stature. The Broncos had a mortgage on the first few years, just like their male counterparts and now the Roosters have spoiled their party...the Dragons have had an excellent season too and their womens' team was very gracious in defeat on the day. That was a great moment right there for sport in general and should be held up as a good example of sportsmanship. This is what should be taught in schools also.

as a roosters fan - yes! i think i've watched every game the roosters have played in the nrlw and when you start to know them and like them you want them to do well. it was tough when the return was one win from seven starts after two seasons but the last two seasons we've been competitive and winning the comp this year has left a warm inner glow.
as a league fan - yes. they need to run it sensibly but it can only help the long term existence of the game.
most sporting codes have separate men's and women's comps so there's nothing new there. why shouldn't girls who love league get a chance to play it?
if you only had a men's tennis comp you'd have no ash barty.

Perish the thought and you've made an excellent point.
And as for those comments about telling women to get back into the kitchen that usually pop up in these threads, that sort of contradicts the old saying that the best chefs around the world are actually men. So where do they cook? In their man caves? Out the back in the shed?

I think it was a mistake adding the third option, I'm always questioning myself these days.
But this poll is pretty black and white............it's a yes or no question. You either support the nrlw or you don't.
I think we could take the 2nd and 3rd answers as the same thing.
Merge them like the magpies.
Make them a coalition like the liberal-nats....................
My two cents worth is I'm all for the women's game but totally agree with many who said the hype is way over the top. Players retiring and getting chaired off after a handful of games is cringe worthy.
Eventually, once the NRLW is firmly established, there are many more games played each year and players reach say, 100 - 200 games then fair enough. I know they haven’t had the opportunity yet but let’s keep in perspective.
I doubt in the first 50 - 70 years of the men's game there wasn't all this carry on. I'll admit I haven't watched many NRLW games but this year's Grand Final was a cracker. Biased as I may be (because the Roosters won) but I honestly thought it was a great spectacle. On a side note, I didn't notice the referees which is always a good thing. Unfortunately I can’t say that when watching the men’s game (especially Roosters games) as I’m literally sitting there waiting for the next six again or a penalty to go against us or a warning to JWH and Victor Radley for dangerous contact.
The women’s game and the skills will only get better in time.
NRL aside, women’s sport and their skills have evolved incredibly well over the years and will only get better. Think of the Olympians from many years ago whether they be athletes, swimmers, cyclists, triathletes and the list goes on. Many jockeys are also holding their own in what was once a male dominated sport (think Jamie Kah, Michelle Payne, Kayla Crowther and Jessice Eaton) just to name a few.
Finally and totally irrelevant to NRLW, and if anyone has any interest in Surfing, I’ve attached what I consider an excellent article written in the SMH about 4 months ago. It is an interview with Brooke Farris (CEO of RIP Curl) and how women’s Surfing has evolved over the years from the ‘boys club’ mentality of the 70’s. It's a seriously long read but a very interesting one.

What do you all reckon?
Am I on my pat malone?
glad you're not a pollster lol. why would people who don't care want the nrl to get rid of the nrlw?
probably they don't feel strongly either way.

Naught problem with my credibility though as I don't do 360's and anyway am I worried what people i don't know think - Never Mind The Bollocks I say
The problem is the misconceptions of Women's sport as some including you for an example are still comparing Women to Men in equivalent sports in terms of standards and skills.
You yourself do this with the comment that "Women's tennis is less skilful and less powerful than Men's Tennis"- Can you back up this opinion ?
The Women play all the shots the Men do for an example serve, forehand, backhand, volley, half-volley, overhead, drop shot and lob and that takes skill no matter how hard the ball is hit.
Jim Courier rated Ash Barty's Backhand slice technique the best in the world and better than Roger Federer's - mmm how could that be as Women are less skilful at Tennis in your view
And also in Cricket " they can't bowl as fast - spin it as much or hit as far as the men - they drop more catches have have more misfields and mishits so it's not as good a quality as the men"
Can you back up this opinion?
For an example Alyssa Healy could hit the ball further than quite a few of the Men Players
I try and watch all the Roosters NRLW games because for one thing I know I'll see them wearing the beautiful RWB jerseys and not those poncy white blah blah crappy shitty ones forced on us by the money grabbing sods at the NRL. Rant over .. go ladies, look forward to seeing you next season.
