  • Official ANZAC DAY Match Thread: Roosters v Saints

This special annual fixture is here again. Let’s appreciate our freedom brought about by the sacrifices of so many men and women who gave their lives so we could enjoy ours.

It’s such an honour to play on the actual day that commemorates the landing in 1915 of the ANZACs in Gallipoli Peninsula. We need to remember that this is a game only. It is not a war and should never be compared to war. That would be an insult to anybody who has ever served.

Let’s honor in the ANZACs with a performance we can be proud of. Let’s not take them easily.

    GO ROOSTERS!

Would be nice to see some free flowing football today from the boys. Hoping that Verrills starts and plays through, rather than Hutch taking the first 25/30 minutes. I know Robbo said otherwise, but keep hearing whispers aMomi is still battling injury and Keighran could be playing today? Anyone have any updates? Or will we be none the wiser until the team before kick off gets confirmed.

Thank you Thirteen. Every year it's a privilege and a blessing to see our team play on this day and should not be taken for granted. Thinking of Johnny Tobin's friends and family today also as the last conversation I had with him was regarding the sky blue jersey I bought back in 2007.

One of the Roosters womens' team played the grand final on her birthday. That was pretty special too. Beautiful photo you just posted too and thanks for sharing. It's very overcast here.

Good words Thirteen (and thanks for the great pic RoosterProud)

Our sacred day is here once again, and we get the privilege of watching our team do their thing. We are lucky in many ways.

A day of solemnity and emotion. But overwhelmingly it's about respect and appreciation. No one wants or likes war. But we can only offer our respect and gratitude to those that selflessly and bravely risked or gave their lives in the name of freedom. All the servicemen and women since WW1.

                          Today we honour them.

The Steelers will be upbeat after their win last week. Won't be an easy game.

an emotional day for remembrance and gratitude.
for me anzac day is about giving thanks to everyone who has served the country in the armed services and paying respect to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. the country needs to do that. personally i'd prefer it was less about gallipoli and more about the western front, a truly tragic tale of monumental proportions or, if you want to look at a campaign that was especially important to us, kokoda, but april 25 it is and i can live with that.
but it's also a day to watch footy and i'm hoping the boys turn it on on the big stage. go easts!
