Congratulations RP and enjoy the day with your family. It's lovely to read that.

Yesterday was my sister and brother in law's 49th wedding anniversary. I was flower girl for them and they dressed me up in red and white because it was St Georges's Day... ironically, no one in my immediate family follows the Dragons either...

the horrific things so many of these people went through , some i heard came back and never talked about the war, did your father ? makes our grumbles about the pandemic pale into comparison. having to wear a mask or get a jab is nowhere near been put on a boat and shipped off to a foreign land to fight now is it ? but basically the whole population got in on the war effort, woman started doing mens jobs whilst they were away , food rationing, lack of dye ....ghastly state of affairs.

i for one am very thankful for what they gave .

          go the chooks.

LOL at the jam and cheese sandwiches, my dad used to take cheese and strawberry jam sandwiches to work, i thought it was odd too, but it actually works pretty well

I was only 15 when Dad died but he only told me snippets. I was only speaking to my only surviving uncle the other day (Dad's baby brother who is now in his 70's) about my cousin's boyfriend (my age, in early 50's) who has PTSD from his time on active duty and he stopped drinking because of it. My uncle and his wife both said to me that back in Dad's day, there was no counselling, no mental health lines to call, no support groups like there is today. I do remember Dad loving the TV show Trapper John MD which was a spin-off from MASH and it covered PTSD in the storylines (I just liked it because Gregory Harrison was in it). Yes Matty, I remember posting on here about people grumbling about lockdowns on here back in 2020 but pointed out that we have Jimmy Brings Wine, Netflix, Uber Eats etc to keep us entertained and the option to go and have a run in the park if need be. Work sent me a fancy chair from head office, 2 monitors, a laptop, wireless mouse and keyboard so I could replicate my workspace at home and I still am not expected to go back into the city. Finally got my 2 doses of Pfizer despite my anaphylactic shock and allergies to penicillin, codeine etc so grateful that there was a safe option for me after all. Had slight arm pain and slept for 10 hours but nothing compared to seeing my Dad suffer with leg and foot injuries and infections which eventually contributed to his passing. Nothing more confronting than seeing his leg change colour over the years..I learned how to change his dressings with the sense of humour he taught me to posses and not be frightened to see the changes in him. He used to have terrible nightmares too..anyway he would not be wanting us to be sad today but to get behind our team and enjoy the day!

Gotta go wash my hair and clean my teeth before kickoff as a) its a game day superstition of mine and b) I'm not a Souths fan..

You know I never let her forget it! Ironically now she follows Brisbane (went to school with Old Wayne) and married a Parra fan who still holds a grudge from the 1977 grand final...another funny story..my other sister's first date with her husband was THAT grand final too.but he followed Souths and she followed Parra...My brother in law was furious on our behalf on ANZAC Day 2012 when I was living with them down in Melboring..he said St George are the luckiest team alive...

My grandfather fought over in France during the 1st world war and never spoke about it much though I remember dad telling me that we were lucky to be here because he had got shot, gassed at another time and buried under dirt when a shell exploded near the trenches and a mate had pulled him out. I turned to my old pa and asked him if he died which made him crack up laughing.
The other thing i remember was an old digger mate called in and they were saying that a shovel was better than the rifle and bayonet in close quarters in the trenches.
Always grateful for the sacrifices of our armed services.

Hopefully it stays dry today and we can see some better ball movement with our best spine in place. I think our class will prevail in the end.
