Egan Butcher and Naufahu Whyte have made this entire situation very complicated (depending on which way you look at it). For the price tag that Gus is currently on, it does not justify his current form or potential. He has as of late plateaued. I would like him to remain at the club with the obvious pay-cut but if he were to seek another club/contract elsewhere then by all means, go for it.

Perhaps his money will be used to bolster some existing players or be used to sign a strike centre and/or maybe a prop ?

I would rather him join Rugby Union as selfish as that may sound but it is what it is !

Spending big dollars on an edge backrower is fraught with danger and if you do they better be providing plenty of attacking threats with running, offloads and quick hands with solid help defence, I'm not seeing that from Angus in all those areas.
Admittedly I think he has improved the last 2 weeks but I can understand why we are asking him to take a pay cut.

Edge back rowers shouldn’t be on more than 600-650 for a star quality one, others 400-500 for the ones that work and toil for 80 minutes

700K max for me. How mad is it up in the gc lol imagine having an edge player on 1M and being pound for pound one of the laziest players in the side

Low end clubs like the GC and Dogs for examaple have no real choice but to attract players with over-market price tags otherwise players wouldn't go there or even bother and those lower-end clubs would always be there in the comp just to make up the numbers.

How much is he on and would you REALLY be cheering if he got suspended for a GF, forcing us to use Whyte?

Also, who says it's an either / or situation?

              I'm willing to bet...
              - He's on closer to $500k than $1m.

              - We can keep him, E Butcher, N Butcher, Sitili, Whyte, Baker, JWH and Collins while also signibg Brandon Smith. If a forward's leaving, they're a rake/utility.

              - Ignore this forum post and what pundits are saying. If you go watch a game, get some beers into you, feel that adrenaline pumping...etc and see you Crichton's either going off for an injury or coming on to provide some leadership then you'll be going giddy. Opposition fans will be moved too as he's a gun? Whyte or Egan? The game isn't resting on their presence just yet.

If Angus is such an ordinary player, why has Robinson got him as a starting second rower every week, and he plays the full 80 minutes ?.
IMO all the others that are mentioned (E Butcher, Whyte etc) are nowhere near the standard of Gus.
And if he does go, good luck on replacing him on the open market when you spend $400 - $450 k - all you will get is crap.
You never know what you had, until its gone.
If Teddy & Keary are on $1 million, and this guy is an Origin rep, at least make him a decent offer.
By all reports, if the Titans and Dolphins are going to offer him a million , you need to be somewhere in the ballpark if you want to retain him.
If other clubs are willing to offer him a million, then the suggestions that we offer him $350K are just complete bullsh*t.

If and I mean if Angus leaves, do you think it would be worthwhile bringing back Ryan Matterson?

pretty sure he's on more than 500k. i believe his first three years averaged more than 700k a year. i think he's a very good player and hope he stays - for the less the better. will trust the club on this one - if he's asking for more than the club thinks he's worth then he's got a decision to make. hope he makes the right one.

I think the issue is B smith. He is costing a fair bit and we cannot afford to pay him what he wants unless we shed.

Starting second row every week. Weren’t you watching when he was dumped to the bench a few weeks ago? Robbo admitted in his press conference that is was a form based decision.

I remember at the back end of 2020 he was the number one second rower in the game. Nobody was better. That’s what disappoints me about him. We know what he’s capable of. He deserves toiler money like Nat Butcher.

He's come back and played well no post drop? Thought he's been our best second rower, and one of our best in general the past few weeks. Sure, if rumours are saying he's on around that 800K mark, you and I both know he's not worth that, but if we can get him for 500/600K and retain him, I'd like that, because I still rate him as one of our best, albeit has been inconsistent to start the year.

TKO is definitely going at the end of the year, wouldn't surprise me if JWH finishes up as well. That frees up some $ which will go toward B.Smith's contract, no? I'd argue we still have money left from the recent departures of Cordner, Friendy, Aubo and the Moz boys as well.
