”…The same can’t be said for NSW State of Origin backrower Angus Crichton who is still in the process of trying to convince the Roosters to register a new two-year deal.
The Chooks are tight for salary cap space following the signing of Brandon Smith for 2023 and are yet to register the Crichton contract with the NRL.
Crichton has told the Roosters he doesn’t want to play for another NRL club but the Chooks have put it back on the backrower to lift his game.”

My guess (and it's as least as valid as this click baiter) is that the Roosters can't register the contract until the final increased 2023 salary cap figure is finalised.

Seriously, who in the Roosters would share such information with a journalist? He's making this up.

I could be reading things into the whole Angus saga, but the positives that I take out from the whole media circus is as follows:
i) It looks like the Rooster want to keep him, but for whatever reason the contract hasn't been registered because of cap space. So is it just a formality that when the cap is sorted, it will be registered?
ii) Both the Club & Angus must have come to terms, because an extension has been inked.
iii) Its probably a short term , 12 month extension, reading between the lines.
iv) The Roosters club is playing hardball, and reduced the $$$ on offer, due to Angus form this year. That's probably justified , with all the complaints here on the Chookpen. But at the same time, he is still a good player, and the Roosters see the value in keeping him.
v) Angus has stated he wants to stay with the Roosters. That shows loyalty to the club. These are the players you want in your side.
vi) I think it is a wait and see situation between both parties. Hence the contract is a short term extension. Angus hits form, and his contract value goes up. If it doesn't he stays on reduced $$$.
That's the way I see it, and I don't know why a star player would even contemplate going to the Tigers at all , despite the money they offer. Tigers are the sort of club that lose 8 out of 10 football matches, and if you play for them, your form suffers. Then the value of your contract is significantly reduced, once it is time to re- negotiate it..
