    SUAALII STAYS

Teenage superstar Joseph Suaalii has shut the door on the 2023 rugby union World Cup after taking up his option with the Sydney Roosters. The news is a huge fillip for the NRL so soon after Kalyn Ponga’s decision to commit to Newcastle, thereby shutting the door on an immediate switch of codes. It keeps Suaalii at the Roosters until the end of next season.\

So he took up just the one year?
I thought he had a two year option.
Great news. Gets better every week.

Joseph Suaalii has player options for 2023 and 2024.

If only taking up the 2023 option then he is able to field offers from Nov 1 2022. - There would be some date in the contract where he has to decide to take up the player option or reject it.

2 year player options are unusual though

Mitchell Moses has a similar contract with a player option for 2024 so he can also field offers from 1 November 2022.

            Good to hear.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

This is great news, already looks like he’s going to be a top level winger and if he’s happy to stay there over the next couple of years and develop we are really going to benefit. Sort of similar to when we had RTS on the wing.

What do we think the long term plan is for him? Teddy is only 29 so can't see him moving to fullback anytime in the next few years like we could do with RTS after his stint on the wing.

Surely he gets moved to left centre eventually as he will be too good to play wing...

As R6 says, he’s going to develop similar to RTS, should he stay. Him Manu, keary and Teddy all go off contract at end of 2024. He will be 21 at this point. I suspect Manu will be moved to 6 for Keary, who unfortunately will probably be odd man out (33 yo), suaalii will probably sign a big deal with an eventual promise for fullback, and teddy gets given the 1-2 year contracts till he drops in form

Need to give the wing position a little more respect.

Daniel Tupou is so important to the success of our side. Brian To’o was more important to the success of Penrith Panthers than any centre they had last year, ditto Josh Addo-Carr and the Storm.

Just look at the benefit of having both Suaali and Tupou over the last fortnight coming out of yardage they’re both brilliant coming out of their own end.

The disrespect to wingers in the modern era of football needs to stop, there’s no such thing as being too good to play on the wing it’s such a crucial position to a sides success.

Two of the best wingers I’ve ever seen, Brett Morris & Valentine Holmes wasted years of their career stuck in this illusion that they were too good to play on the wing. A brilliant winger is like a top end prop and a top end finisher combined in one, they’re undervalued if anything.

Agree with the majority of that - bar the Ado Carr bit - Melba haven't skipped a beat without him - he's a good finisher but there are a lot of them. He's better than most at finishing though. He's such a it's all bout me player he drives me mental bruh.

when he gets up pumping his chest looking for the camera and showing us what's written on his wrist when one of his team mates has fair dinkum just laid it on a platter for him I wish I had a magical gun that could travel through the TV

Really great news on Sualii though - he is looking really good. I love the way Robbo has brought him along. Clearly the brief was - do the tough stuff first. Learn that because the brilliance is in you. We will start to see more of the brilliance now he has earned the respect of his team mates with the tough carries he has been doing all year.
