Heck, Barrett cops half a million payout for failing.
Big Jack Gibson described success as if you win one game -might have got that view from when he took over coaching Easts in 1967 as the previous year (1966) they didn't win a game -18 losses - 0 comp points - they made the finals in 1967 and again in 1968 and so the legend was born.
Sure Barrett gets a payout but one would have to say his head coaching career is finished in the NRL and well maybe anywhere or in any capacity even assistant coach roles.
Although I did notice that Mick Potter will be the Dogs interim head coach for the rest of 2022 and surely he would not have expected that to occur.Last edited by King Salvo; 05-19-2022, 01:45 AM.

Hasler cared more about his own reputation than the future of the club.
They're paying for Haslers semi-final appearances with wooden spoons.

"16 yr olds versus the men" think I called it.
He didn't have much of the assistance coaches have today.Last edited by bondi.boy; 05-19-2022, 03:55 PM.

Too many public tantrums and off the planet half time addresses.

IMO other than Robbo, Bellamy and Bennett, no coach has been consistently good. Cleary's emerging and is clearly the in-form coach so I guess you can add him to that list as he has a premiership to his name now (and seems to put 50+ on every other team).
Even then... Bennett's had some shockers and Cleary had a LOT more chances than Robbo before he came good.
IMO coaching is a thankless job because you either win or you lose. I don't think there's a solid, working-class coach out there. Arguably guys like Hasler and Sticky fill that void but I can't think of a lot of others (and both are very club specific IMO).
Guess we'll see what Slater's like. Freddy, Mal, Slater...etc are a different kind of coach though. Most coaches are shyte! I'd argue because it's difficult to get your foot in the door and a specific kind of person gets earmarked. Robbo and Bennett are special in that they weren't amazing players but did enough to get within the 4 walls of the NRL and have leveraged that.Last edited by ism22; 06-08-2022, 10:21 AM.

Surely Hollbrooks time on the GC must be up? I get the he gives off a nice guy vibe feel but his results have been horrendous. The GC is an area where there must be a competitive team & they have spent big in recent years for no results. He should have been gone after losing to a Rooster reserves team in last year's finals.

For whatever reason, sports on the goldcoast just don’t do well.
