  • Official Match Day Thread: Roosters v Panthers

Yes! The day has arrived. The day we get to announce we’re back. The day we are able to put behind some very disappointing loses.

It’s a simple game. Win the forward battle, we get the 2 points. Our pack needs to hunt down the Penrith bullies. We need to bash them. Let’s keep the momentum going.

Great to see May get a run. He’s earned his chance. Let’s hope he kills it.

    GO ROOSTERS!

Go you Chookies - hope May gets some decent game time Robbo often only gives the new guys very limited minutes.

impressed with Kearys kicking game last week - much improved and surprised with some decent long kicks as well. That will be crucial to beat these guys in these conditions - kick long and chase hard and pin them in.

We will miss Sitilli's tough carries that straighten the attack and provide momentum - hopefully we can find someone to step up to that role.

Very happy to see Terrell get his opportunity tonight, I would say to go hard but that’s how this kid plays naturally already.

Big kicking game required tonight, and tough defence is a must if we want to stand any chance of winning. The Penrith boys will bring their defence with them so we have to stand up in this aspect we must

To have any chance we need to dominate the middle.
The chooks need to fight fire with petrol .

If we dont limit Clearys impact by contolling the ruck it could be a long night...

        GO THE ROOSTERS

Biggest test yet, Penrith have been the benchmark for the last couple of years, we have enough weapons throughout our team to trouble them.
We need to be switched on from start to finish, high intensity in everything we do tonight is required.

          Go EASTS!!

            Happy democracy sausage day.

The big test is here. Playing a confident supercharged team . The only way we can beat them is putting them under pressure and maintaining that for 80 minutes, getting them out of their comfort zone. Kicking game crucial esp in these wet conditions. Cleary is the master, we have to meet him and beat him. Ivan the Cerebral would have noted some weaknesses this year he can exploit. Sammy Walker might again be our point of difference bringing his creativity to the moment when we need it most.

Sutton terrifies me. If he plays to script and keeps giving them recounts in territory it gets too tough. We need a fair crack of the dem sausage with the shithouse 6 again rule.

Big task keeping energy across the 80 min with what they throw at you. Esp after last weeks drainer in the humidity. Robbos use of bench important.

Congrats T May. Might only get small minutes but deserves his chance.

We always play better against the better oppositions. Good luck Easts.

We have to play smart to combat their rushing defence. I’d like to see short passing between our forwards at or near the line. If we run one out trying to get out of our end we will struggle. Use our height advantage on the edges when we are in good ball. Kez & Walker have to run the ball and keep them guessing. Smash Kikau early & often. Yeo too. Limit Cleary’s time, especially on the last tackle.

                  Go Easts.

Like every other game if the forwards turn up in there game day gear and not there dinner suits we have thee team to win this . Tackle hard run hard and keep the penalties and mistakes down and we win . Simple game .

We are down on troops again and Penrith are full strength. Losing Rads hurts. He played like an extra half in the middle. Up to Kez and Sammy to really step up now. In saying that unless our forwards lay a platform the halves won’t be able to do their magic. Kezs kicking game was great last week but that was helped massively by being able to put in attacking kicks from at least the half way. We need that same performance from our middles. Having Lindsay back will help. Our discipline has to be good. No giving away penalties taking the pressure off Penrith coming out of their end please. My main fear is Sutton. If he does to us what Cummins and the bunker did to Manly last night we are stuffed. We desperately need a good start. Lastly HOLD ONTO THE BALL!

                        Egan is playing tonight.

Saluka played for the Bears last night so drops off our bench and he will be replaced by Egan who’s in the 19.

Simple- tackle Kikau, pressure on Clearly kicking, some lucky deft kicks on the try line like they always seem to get, the ref and the bunker on outside for once and we have this.

Good luck guys. Win, loose or draw we support you.

As much as I like Radley as a player, I think his omission will allow the pack to play much more through the middle rather than shuffling to the edges too early. Front door footy

It starts with our back 3 and if they can make some yardage off our line to give our forwards a chance to create space for our halves.
I don't think any team can win the field position battle against Clearys boot so we have to be willing to chance our arm and play some attacking footy when we do get the opportunity.
Happy to see Egan back as I have a huge opinion of him and he is the only ball playing forward now that Rads is sidelined.
Congrats to May and hope he rips and tears on debut.
                              Easts to win.
