They are dead set certainties to win B2B & we are a fair way off them as apart from Rads we were full strength tonight & they just rode out the 1st 20 mins then stepped up when needed.
They're definitely a cut above, but what I was trying to say was that with some continued improvement over the coming months, we could potentially scalp them in a final. They barely won all of their finals games last year, and were probably lucky in a couple of them. At the moment, you're totally right. We're just not in their tier.

Just to clarify though, we were down Rads, Verrills and Sitili.

    • I would be surprised if JWH will face anything more than a fine if that for the slap "high tackle" - Will cop a fine in spraying the ref though

      • Proud of the effort by our boys they fought tooth and nail tonight that 10 minute period before halftime killed us, no doubt fatigue led to the errors and missed tackles, on a positive note if we work a little more on the fitness side and keep punching through the centre with short passes they can break open Penriths defence, my word they’re a very committed side they give you nothing a mark of all great sides.

Plenty of positives to come from the game we will learn from this.

        Go Easts!!

        • Angus made more runs, more metres and more post contact metres than any of our forwards. Also made 39 tackles. But he is disinterested.
          Amazing the intellect of some.

          • The difference tonight was Luai, Crighton & Fisher Harris. If the Chooks had those 3 we would be were Penrith are. That Luai is top notch.

I think your negative waves affected the Roosters

              • Overall, we were well beaten, and it showed on the scoreboard.
I am still seething that that pr*ck Sutton did not send the 1st Luai try up to the bunker to check the grounding.
At the ground, on the big screen, it looked like (Manu I think) had his arm under the ball, and Luai never got it to the ground.
But Sutton (the biggest Rooster hater of all) knows better.
Being 12 points behind with 2 minutes on the clock in the first half, the Roosters were diabolical.
Firstly, made a mistake and handed the ball back to Penrith in our attacking zone - unforgivable.
Then a pissweak effort in defence by Collins and E Butcher in trying to keep Korrisau out.
They both deserve a boot in the backside for that play.
It was an 18-0 scoreline , and the game was over.

I thought that some hard, straight, determined running would have served us well - it did in the leadup to the Tedesco try.
I think by going to the air to Toops & Suaalii at the end of the six tackles is quite obvious to everyone now - its trying to pinch the 6 points off teams - and it can backfire badly, like tonight.
Maybe need to mix it up some more..

eh Sutton wasn't great but mostly called it correct. Yes there were a few suspct but nothing that seriously impacted the game

Fisher Harris would be exceptional. I disagree though about the other two. Walker is the top 5/8 this year on Dally M points and will in most likelihood be a top player in the league within a yera or two. As for Crichton, I think along with Campbell Graham and Clint Gutherson, amongst the most verrated players in the comp. I think he looks good because the Panthers look good and make it easy for him

It was a real arm wrestle up to 15 or so minutes before half time - Roosters had only 1 error and 2 missed tackles - those last 15 or so minutes 4 errors and 15 missed tackles were of course telling as to go into the sheds 18-0 down meant it was a long long way back.

Not sure if they watch how Parramatta play against Penrith and even the Storm as they have beaten both these sides. - Against the Storm they move the ball and against Penrith a lot of offloads and support play and going back through the middle with angle runs and what not which certainly fatigued their ruck and middle defenders.

There were some soft tries though and not sure they were fatigued related with players not getting back into position or players not showing the required urgency.

They have a fair bit to work on to be an 80 minute team though as even the wins they have had they have dropped off during those game and let teams back into the match.

Have to find a level of consistent play that they can produce for 80 minutes week in week out and not drop that level during a game - of course it is impossible to be at ones best week in week out for 24 rounds so finding that level is the key.

Not unbeatable though - you need to play an 80 minute against them not 50 or 60 but 80. Not sure the Roosters have an 80 minute game in them or are able to play at a consistent level over 80 minutes week in week out.

The Roosters drop their level during games too often to be considered a real premiership contender and will need to rectify this to be any chance

They have a tough run coming up and SOO starts as well with players selected missing the Raiders game -Possibly rested for the Storm game which is 3 days after SOO 1 /Possibly rested for the Penrith game which is 5 days after S00 2 and possibly rested for the Dragons game which is 3 days after S00 3.

Tedesco/ Crichton/Collins in contention for SOO

We’re not at that level king but we showed for long periods we can wrestle with Panthers, however our kicking game is just not up to scratch even if we didn’t concede those soft tries, Cleary would have have kicked us into submission, we simply do not have a long kicking game.

I don’t know why we didn’t offload the ball more, last week vs Parra we offloaded at will this is simply a must against Penrith every tackle they put three or four defenders in and drive us back, one offload or short passes with runners either side of the ball would split that rushing defence open Keary ran the ball a few times last night deep into the line but died with ball in his hands.

I would have killed to have a Jake Friend in the middle last night, hooker is such a sore point for us atm and I hope Robbo looks at brining B. Marshke in from next week until Verrills gets back.

Panthers gee whiz scary good side from 1-17. I agree with your sentiments about being an 80 minute team we fade in and out of games last night was 60-65 min effort which simply isn’t good enough against Penrith.

                              • It was a very eloquent speech by Jared, to Sutton.
I thought it was very restrained.
But can we ask Jared to speak up next time, and say exactly what is on his mind?
