I wasn't around to hear the commentators from prior to the 90s. Sterlo was the best analyst/commentator I've heard. Called it down the line most of the time

but he was quick to point out the ref error even before Teddy had got up off the ground after scoring !

In the 80s ABC used to broadcast the saturday arvo game.
Warren Boland and John Peard................and I think big Artie for a while as well

They remain my favourite TV commentary team.

They were a great team Eddie, bomber could always make Artie laugh.
I can remember the abc match of the day on a Saturday , im not sure of the commentator but i think it was O'Reilly and Reg Gasnier was the offsider.
Rex with the theme music from shaft would do the Sunday game.

Did you ever listen to the radio ABC Eddie,?

Brian Smith as co commentator was brilliant, probably the best I've heard.

I was a big fan of the Wok.
And Kerry O'Keefe on the cricket used to crack me up.
