  • What do we need to do to become contenders again?

I don’t have the answers but wanted to start a constructive thread to see what people think we need to do to start competing for titles again?
    • Be able to play at a high level for 80mins
    • Time, may sound strange but give Walker, Egan Butcher, May, JS, Baker another 30 games experience and we will start seeing big improvements in combinations , confidence and game situation experience
    • Robbo to adapt his style of play, less structure, more players in motion, support play
That’s my two cents, what do other people think in how we can start competing again?

    - An 80 minute specialist dummy half would be a good start.

    - Time - Walker and Suaalli are unlnlikely to go their entire careers without winning premierships.

I hate to say it, but I don't see us a contenders this year anymore. Hopefully we make the 8 and work on combos for next season.

Didn’t we say that last year as well? We got the troops back yet we’re are no better, if not worse than last year.

Have our best 17 on the field in September.

I think Jack once said the bigger and faster my players are, the better I seem to coach.

A good left centre, two second rowers, a dummy half and some depth in the three-quarters.

A decent hooker, and playing the same spine for the best part of a year. People expect a lot from our current crop but they are very inexperienced. None of Momirovski, Smith, Verrills, Walker, Lam, Suaalii, Egan Butcher or even Hutch have played 50 NRL games, which is generally considered the mark after which players become consistent 1st graders. Collins is on 60 games.

I was going to post a couple of weeks ago about this but didn’t get around to it. I did the maths and in Cronk, Aubbo, Cordner, Friend & the Morris twins, we lost more in game experience than the entire starting side had that we were putting on the park.

I know we expect to be highly competitive every season, but we have lost an unprecedented amount of experience and talent. It takes time to recover from that, and our retched with injuries hasn’t helped our new blood gain the experience it needs to perform consistently on the big stage.

We’ll get there, but it will take more time than we’d hoped.

What a great line. It’s true.

A brand new forward pack. Only ones I’d keep are Radley, E Butcher and maybe Collins, Sitili.

Ability not to give away stupid penalties. What’s better 11 m and run hard or 30m free kick down field. If you want crowd them for the first two tackles but don’t give away a inside the 10 penalty after that.

Defense. Look at the way the Panthers won their finals games. They managed to turn it into a low scoring grind despite 6-again rules.

IMO our biggest issues defensively are small halves on either side of the field, being protected by Crichton and Sitili who are nowhere near the defensive ability of Cordner and Maubs.
