I'm not talking about the 19 year olds - there aren't any in our team who deserve to be dropped, off the top of my head. If anything the 19 year olds deserve promotions.
In fact, it's the most senior players that should be given a rocket up their arse or a retirement ticket. If they can't deal with it, tough titties. Goodbye Braith, Mini and FPN, in a world where the coach has balls and actually runs the football side of things at a club.
What a world that would be.
And when we lose after dropping say those 3 mate, who will we bag and want dropped next???

Your devil's advocate act is getting old mate.
I agree with you that this place can get overly pessimistic, but blindly denying our deficiencies is sillier still.
There are players in this team who are nothing more than passengers. Some actually make the team worse.
I find it hard to believe you honestly reckon guys like Minichiello, FPN and Carney deserve spots over Alofa/Perrett, Bosden/Taikarangi/Symonds and Moga. I could understand why some people would object to dropping Braith, but he is another I see as a liability, and Mortimer looks to be gaining confidence every week.
The young blokes will at least bring a bit of strength to our kick returns, and enthusiastic work in the halves and up the middle. They can't do any worse than the aforementioned older guys who are coasting through games.
Pick the young kids. Sink or swim. We have long been over reluctant to give guys a go in first grade. Cheyse Blair, although a lot on here understandably dislike him for his attitude, is good enough to play in first grade and can only get better, yet we let him go and now persist with guys like Carney, who will simply never be anything more than a solid winger (if he ever gets that far, he's not even close yet).
Instead of simply disagreeing with every criticism of the team because you feel this place is pessimistic, it'd be good if you started to separate the ridiculous bagging (by all means, go out guns blazing at that) and legitimate critique.
Sorry for the rant mate, I'm at work and bored, and really want to see us give it to Melbourne this weekend.

Agree to anextent, but you put too much faith in 19 year olds that kill it in a comp that has no defense and would drown in the pressure of First Grade. Alofa? Seriously? By all means give him a go, but lets not pretend that he's actually done something.
Alcohol never solved any life problems.....then again neither did milk.

I don't have a great degree of faith in them.
But I still have more faith in them than players who have proven over years of the NRL that in some cases they aren't up to it anymore, and in others, that they never were.
Alofa at least plays and handles the NSW Cup, which is much closer to the physicality of the NRL than the NYC.
I never said Alofa had done anything of great merit - I simply said what you did: give him a go. Why not? He cannot be any worse than your Moth.

The upside of running kids in early is that there is plenty of improvement in them. They will lose you games and they will win you games however you know that they will progress forwards.
Mini, Anasta don't have any improvement in them, they are in the twilight of their careers. There is nothing to look forward to except the usual midfield bomb, or the inevitable crabbing across the field during a kick return.
Nobody is hailing these kids as saviours, however, they obviously have talent and have been identified as such. Throw them in, build toward the future.
For all the flak Henjak received, he had the youngest Broncos side in history ( even with old man river propping up the average). They persevered with them, and are now, slowly starting to reap the rewards.
Either we are building for the future, or we are challenging for the title. If we are not challenging for the title, why do we play guys who are not going to be part of the future plans ?

Agreed. Anyone is better than the Moth at this stage.

Because Easts never plan for teh future. There is only the now. The instant gratification they seek. The one they never get.
Its like screwing with no release...whats the point.

BF mate I don't disagree with a word you've said. There was a post MrWong bought back from 3 seasons ago where I'm questioning Bwaiff and Mini. I know their limitations as well as anyone.
The thing is I'm a realist. What you want will not happen, not this season. IMO there's no use worrying about something that is a 0% chance.
Our only hope to see those kids is injury. I said only the other day in a post I wouldn't be against Mini having an "injury" cos TBH he's an embarrassment to his own legend, IMO of course. Not I want to see him hurt, I mean when someone's "injured" and bows out gracefully.
I also believe playing a team of kids is suicide especially for the coach. It will probably cost Smiff his job with the lack of experience in the squad anyway and the fact our older blokes are among our poorest performers.
I love the club. I just don't see the point in death riding our players and coaches. I hope to be proven wrong and somehow we pull a miracle and make the 8 and do something this season. But as I said I'm a realist and I accept that's just my heart talking.
Im not expecting much this year so I won't get too disappointed with what occurs either way. We have some good kids coming thru and I hope we get some quality around them and can make a team that can last for the next few years.
I will continue to have a at everyone, it's the net and it's a pisstake. And if I annoy a few, well so be it.
I equate Mini playing on for much too long to be like the Duets albums by Frank Sinatra. He was past it and couldn't accept it and tried to reinvent himself with no great success.

All of that is well said. You'll save a lot of time and waste a lot less words on here than me.
One day, hopefully we see this kids tear up first grade without the burden of being undercoached and having to support older yet lesser players.

Until then (and after it), keep ing mate!
I always mate, lifes too short to waste on the opposite emotions IMO.
I'm not that unhappy with the direction we seem to be taking, the youth policy. IMO it's something we've always avoided, except maybe 95-04ish, when Gus implemented something similar. That paid dividends with the 00-04 run.
That said I, like most of us, get frustrated at times with the old blokes we've hung onto, I believe we've kept the wrong ones. But I know it must be difficult with issues like the Carntey affair and Myles shite, Ryles cash, Conns retirement etc. Sometimes the best laid plans just get screwed and really it's not the clubs fault. I believe they, the bosses and coaches, have the best intentions and want to succeed as much as we all do.
I also think Smiffs shown from his past record he's one of the best at getting young kids with talent to realize their pootential. Where he takes it from there is up for debate. But at the moment I believe we have a very good coach for our current situation.
I guess I'm saying I see where the clubs trying to take us. It's not perfect but as the cliche goes, short term pain for long term gain.

Thats easy......second place!!!
Alcohol never solved any life problems.....then again neither did milk.
One of these days Smiff is going to shock the crap out of everyone and actually win the big one.
A national holiday will be declared.
Just hope it's with us.
