    Second Half
    • Possession - Roosters 54% - Parra 46%
    • Set Completions - Parra 80% ( 15/19) - Roosters 79% ( 22/27)
    • Running Metres - Parra 925 ( 324 PC ) - Roosters 861 (313 PC)
    • Average set distance - Parra -44.38 metres - Roosters - 29.33 metres
What was the average set distance without sets completed via a penalty?

A penalty awarded on tackle 1 is considered a set completed, if you have run for 2 metres in that set then of course it’s going to bring down your average. I’m asking as we got quite a few set restarts and penalties early in the tackle count?

    • Cooper Cronk said the Eels were “playing out of their skin” and declared the their first half as “the best 40 minutes we’ve seen this year,” while Greg Alexander was in awe of the thrilling tries.

“The Eels, after trailing 6-nil… I don’t think I’ve seen a side put together so many spectacular tries,” Alexander said.

“Our middle defence needs to be better than it was tonight,” Tedesco said looking ahead at Round 16.

“We knew Parramatta were going to come out, especially after the way they played last week, but Penrith did that to us as well when they played us — they went through our middle.

“We’ve just got to play an 80-minute performance, we haven’t done it all year. We’ve been good in patches but just not consistent enough.”

Not sure- how do they calculate the set distance if say you make 30 metres and scored a try on the third tackle - is that deemed a complete set ? - a player intercepts the ball and runs 90 metres and scores a try - is that counted as a complete set and 90 metres?

          Tackled in opposition 20 2nd half - Parra - 7 vs Roosters 4- First half - Parra 18 vs Roosters 2

          • Our big boys are so slow getting back onside one thing that I picked up also at the game tonight is teddy does not set the line well at all in fact I saw him in our own line at least 40 out when he should obviously be at the back.. our boys are slow at getting back and they are leaving huge gaps either side of the ruck and that’s how parra got us straight down the centre.

            • Worst defence I’ve seen in a while regarding the first half. The eels got 60 meters in most of their sets. Our middle defence isn’t holding up like in previous seasons. Attack was woeful at times. Doesn’t help that we’ve lost a few crucial players at times and haven’t gotten really gotten any cohesion

Not set distance is only running metres gained from play 1 to play 6. So if you start a set on the 10m line you can’t gain more than 10 metres.

If you get a set restart on tackle 1 then your previous set is deemed as ‘complete’ and a new set starts so whatever metres you made in 1 carry would be the set distance of that set.

It’s a pretty useless stat. A side constantly rucking it out from their own end will typically dominate a stat like that which is what Parramatta pretty much had to do all 2nd half.

We play dragons, manly,Newcastle and the tigers in the next month or two of footy, there is nothing wrong with the draw, especially when we had a soft opening half of the draw.

WHY don't/can't we attack like that?
They played the way I wanted us to play...

                    • Our defence needs to improve but the contact and intent was there.
                      good signs

Parra were very good especially Paulo and RCG they were excellent, with Paulo achieving career high stats....

The chooks are not cooked yet
I can feel a late season surge brewing

                        • Good second half - except we couldn’t convert into many points. Collins and Suaali were excellent, TKO shows why he’ll be missed, thought DSF looked solid and played a role in wrestling back the middle. Nice to hear Trent gave the boys a rocket at half time. Loved how he hooked Baker for his penalty. He looked pissed at presser.

Everyone needs to lift their intensity and accountability going forward.

                          • Well that result was disappointing. I thought many of our players played very well. Toops, JS, Smith, Baker, Angus, Collins, and N Butch til he went off early were all very good.
Parra played well, but got very lucky a few times as well, with plenty of offloads coming off which could easily have been errors, It was just their night.
We made 109 MORE tackles than they did, and we missed 12 FEWER than they did.
I thought Verrills tried hard, but was gassed quickly, and Hutch was steady, but our kicking game was not great.
A couple of really bad misreads in defence against offloads and angle changes cost us dearly.
Clearly we will improve with Kez, JWH and Rads back, and the week rest will help with the Butchers recovery.
As I said, it was disappointing, but not the end of the world, or the end of our season.
                            Just a couple of footnotes.....
JS..... man i hope he is a Roosters career player, what an absolute star he is..... move over Sonny Bill.
Smithy showed plenty of guts and ability, I hope he can go injury free for the rest of the year.
Lindsay is a beast, that tackle he got penalised for was a great shot. He had a great game.
Toops..... what a gutsy effort from him bringing the ball back all night.... as usual.

Slow starts to the season doesn't help.

We have to come out firing from game 1 like Melbourne etc., because if we don't and we get injuries, we are farked.
