He had amazing quick hands and his skill set were years ahead of his time.

I recall seeing Fairfax play on Woolahra Oval against Easts in his rugby days as a 5/8 and witnessed his spectacular chip and chase for the 1st time. Another memory of his 5/8 rugby time was for Australia against the French in a very spiteful game on the SCG.He absolutely got hammered that day, I recall him taking a breather outside the sideline and as he ran back into the field of play he fell over. Brave indeed let alone mentally tough. He had a beautiful passing game and his flick passes to Jimmy Porter and Billy Mullins a treat.
