John "Chicka" Ferguson was the best winger I've seen. So even though he only played a few seasons with Easts he always goes straight in my 'best' composite team.

You reckon Fairfax lacked ball playing skills? Many would say he had the best hands of anyone at the club. Played some five-eighth in 78 and 79, but he was past his best by then. If he'd played five-eighth in 74 or 75, it would have been something to behold.

I remember watching him throw perfect gridiron spiral passes with an old league leather ball prior to the world club challenge game against St Helens that were travelling over 35 metres.
He had amazing quick hands and his skill set were years ahead of his time.

I recall seeing Fairfax play on Woolahra Oval against Easts in his rugby days as a 5/8 and witnessed his spectacular chip and chase for the 1st time. Another memory of his 5/8 rugby time was for Australia against the French in a very spiteful game on the SCG.He absolutely got hammered that day, I recall him taking a breather outside the sideline and as he ran back into the field of play he fell over. Brave indeed let alone mentally tough. He had a beautiful passing game and his flick passes to Jimmy Porter and Billy Mullins a treat.
