  • Manu long kicking game

Our long kicking game is limited and was shown up tonight. We were unable to pin Penrith down in their own half.

Hutchinson kicked well early from dummy half trying to nail 40/20’s on a few occasions. A Cooper Cronk special. Didn’t play 80

Walker struggled with distance and is a long way off being our main clearing kicker. Backup only

Verrills has it in his game but has been out and should practice what Drew was doing early in the game.

    Keary.. gone

Manu? .. Can’t remember him ever purposely kicking long?

If Manu is going to continue playing at 6 he needs to develop a kicking game as Walker was ineffective tonight

How quickly can Manu develop a long kicking game?
Next game? Week after? Not this year?

Why not? Joey can do it all

If he practices, sure why not

I didn't think Walker did a bad job kicking. I think Burton and Moses have changed our perspectives but Walker did alright. As for kicking, Manu 100% has a kicking game, it just comes down to how accurate it is under pressure from defenders. Can be fixed pretty easily, as no one expects him to be DCE, Reynolds, Cleary, Burton etc in the kicking department

Walkers long kick were okay early as he got them into space and he had a bit of energy. By 10 mins into the second half he had fatigued and his long kicks were really poor. He was hitting them poorly with all momentum in his body going back rather than into the ball.

walker's short kicking game is as good as alan langer so if joey could work on his long kicking game then he's definitely an option for 5/8 when keary goes. anything that has him getting his hands on the ball more is a good idea

We need to find another punter for when Hutch is off the field. Recall that Latrell used to do some long kicking from deep inside our own half. It doesn't need to be an accurate kick like Hutch is capable of. Just deep down the centre of the field. If it occasionally trickles over for a 7 tackle set then so be it. Those long athletic legs on Suaalii look like they could do something similar to Latrell.

I am also thinking that when JWH and Lodge come into the side it may not matter as we are unlikely to be trapped deep inside our own half too often.

Tedesco has a long kicking game which could be utilised more in games - I know people will say what else do you want him to do but if you have a skill it should be used for the benefit of the team.
