  • Latrell not available for SOO.. should he be stood down from vermin

There used to be a rule that if you make yourself unavailable you cannot play NRL club games.
why is this not being commented upon and not enforced by NRL?
    welcome comments.

to me this reinforces my belief NRL has two sets of rules and manages them on the fly

Was Jamie Lyon forced to stand down for his club?

I didnt think you were allowed to make yourself unavailable if your fit.
I dont know why Latrell has done that other than to get a headline.

I think Jamie Lyon was forced to stand down until he reached a certain age where he could claim he was retiring from rep football? Something like that?

If it's a rule then it's a stupid rule. You shouldn't have to play rep football.

Just on this one, Latrell might actually be trying to do the right thing for his club, given he has played so few games for them since being contracted.

            Yeah random hey?

I feel like the nuance is that you don't announce it publicly... you get your coach to have a private word with Freddy.

Doubt he'd be picked anyway based on how Burton played? IMO Crichton's been a bit ordinary though...

Stupidest rule ever I’d it still exists. Imagine any other business or employer forcing you to go work for another employer on your time off if you don’t want to. It’s a privilege to play rep but you simply shouldn’t be forced. I for one always hope there are no Roosters players selected as the club pays their wage then the players miss club games, are burnt out & risk injury.

                Exactly!

                I was wondering this myself.

All eligible players are to make themselves available for relevant representative sides unless exempted or injured - Mitchell is neither but in reality who was he going to replace after only 1 game back.

I suppose one can also ask why NSW/QLD are picking players who will be playing for other countries (Tier 2 Nations ) come the RL World Cup.

Been a lot of discussion about changing the rules for SOO eligibility over the years.

To be eligible for Origin, a player can not have played Test football for either of Australia's fellow tier-one nations, New Zealand and England. A player must also nominate Australia as their Test football nation.

Jamie Lyon went pig shooting and Timana Tahu walked out of an Origin camp also. I don't think players should be forced to play Origin if they are not comfortable. They won't perform to the level that is expected of them anyway and would ultimately be taking a spot away from another player whose dream it is to play Origin. In essence, it's like any work place promotion and some people don't want to work at the next level so I don't believe that should be foisted onto them. Origin is a pressure cooker environment and watched all over the world. Not everyone is wired to play at that level, nor should they be forced to do so.

                      That's plausible too.

Wish Freddy should pick him as 18th man to what happens

i think its quite commendable of latrell in this instance , and one his more mature decisions. seems he is putting his club forst after they have shelled out a big load of cash for his injury , it will also hush the noise around his potential selection .

for what its worth i think s.crichton should be dropped and j.wighton selected . bit im a kiwi , what would i know ?

I think it's unselfish from Latrell which is unusual.
He is underdone and probably would cost someone from a winning team there spot

You wouldn't be saying that if it were an Easts player making themselves unavailable. Lattrell is a champion player in a top club.
