Luke is also studying and one year into an internship in finance so he does have a very solid plan B. That said, he'll be very missed by all and he reminds me of Brett Kenny in terms of natural ability but unassuming nature..if you saw him walking down the street, most would not pick him as an NRL player or an incredibly fast runner..like I posted previously, he's a good golfer too..

It’s not in the best interest of the club to have our highest paid player on the verge of being medically retired if/when he cops another head knock. It’s too much of a risk.
I respect what Keary has done for the club as much as everyone and I’m extremely appreciative but he needs to retire so we can be active in the market and replace him.
Even if he is medically cleared for now you have to all agree the next hit sees us without a high profile player for even longer next time, we all wish it wasn't the case.

He deserves time to make a decision like this just like Boyd Cordner deserved time, both put their bodies and health on the line for our club it has nothing to do with selfishness or ego.

I don’t get to go to many games due to work commitments and the nature of what I do, I still buy memberships to support this great club and will continue to be even if I don’t get out to many games, but we need to plan for the future this year is gone I don’t want next year to be gone also if /when Luke cops another HIA (I hope he doesn’t) love the club and when things have been shit in peoples lives myself included this great club has given me slot of joy, it may as well be now to call it and we secure the future of this club with a marquee signing, Penrith have been unopposed for over 2 years in nearly every game they have played time to put an end to it. Business is business if Luke goes we go shopping we have to do what it takes to bring in the silverware.

There was no ongoing medical issues which prevented the club from extending Keary's contract by 3 years to 2024 though as obviously the Club would have checked this out with the relevant medical people before offering the contract extension.
The decision to retire would be Keary's in the end as it was for Cords.Last edited by King Salvo; 07-11-2022, 04:58 PM.

The contract extension was when there were no underlying recurring issues for Keary. Obviously all players are one serious injury from retirement. The unfortunate issue with Keary is a comparatively minor knock to the head has caused sufficient concern that he has had an extended time out again. Anorher repeated normally what would be considered a non career ending knock will likely cause him to have to retire. I think thirteen's assessment is logical...

After five head knocks across the 2018 and 2019 seasons, the Roosters playmaker was sent to see a specialist and given five weeks away from the game - ruling him out of the 2019 State of Origin series.

Not sure that people understand the difference between medical retirements and non medical retirements and the implications this has on the salary cap.
It would need to be an approved medical retirement for Keary's wages not to be included in the cap on an annual basis up to the end of his contract in 2024.
If he just retired as has been suggested then his wages would be included in the cap on an annual basis up to 2024.
The NRL can approve a medical retirements even if the insurer doesn't approve the claim.
Keary in my understanding has been cleared to continue playing the same as Cords was - Cords retired but no info about whether the NRL approved it as a medical retirement or not. Cords contract was due to expire in 2023.Last edited by King Salvo; 07-11-2022, 01:18 PM.

So the suggestion is he bullshiits about having headaches so he can get $1.7M over the next two years from the insurance company? Somehow I doubt the club would encourage that.
What if he wants to continue playing beyond 2024? Maybe finish up at the Dolphins with a superannuation top up. If we let him go to the Dolphins early to avoid that potential head knock how much would we have to pay of his salary which would affect our cap if we wanted to get Munster or Burton?
The doctors have passed him and it sounds like he is keen to play on and the club is just as keen.
That's business.

No, not suggesting bs...just he HAS been having ongoing headaches, so Luke can make a rational decision to retire and not put himself through ongoing issues. Or the club can continue to give him undefined amount of time to overcome that... or say in discussion with him too much time on the sideline is not in the clubs interest....and lead the discussion with him....
