Their was no ongoing medical issues which prevented the club from extending Keary's contract by 3 years to 2024 though as obviously the Club would have checked this out with the relevant medical people before offering the contract extension.

The decision to retire would be Keary's in the end as it was for Cords.
Most players come back from most injuries. It’s very rare for a player to sustain an injury and never return. Yes it’s happened but it’s unlikely. With Keary we know his history and it’s plain obvious that if it happens again he’s out.

    • As per the weekly Pilot medial report on the Roosters page: “Luke Keary has resumed training with the NRL squad, while Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Renouf Atoni have entered their end-stage rehabilitation on their respective injuries”.

Obviously as we saw with Boyd, training does not always = fit to return, but promising signs. Surprised Jared is still in rehabilitation. Never heard much about the injury and he was just randomly ruled out for what’s been around a month and possibly more.

He hasn't played since Rnd 12 - 28 May against the Sharks. He was ruled out with the injury before the next round against the Raiders.

I agree. Surely Luke's long term health is far more important than the salary cap shortfalls. If he is to be medically retired then let it be. It's not his fault that he got injured doing his job.

Neurology specialists have passed Keary fit to play on though.

Cords pulled the pin on his career not as a result of any adverse Neurologists diagnosis/report.

Still can't see any confirmation that Cords medical retirement was approved though as his contract was to expire in 2023 let alone what happened to the $350k rep injury salary cap relief.

one of the downsides of the club keeping everything in house is that there's barely any news in these scenarios...

I still prefer it then a new leak every day like the Tigers though

Cmon mate. That’s the only way the Tagpies stay newsworthy and keep it interesting.

Meanwhile, Souffs were able to 'medically' retire Sam Burgess (charged with DV a few weeks later, something they were clearly aware of in the context of the stand-down policy) and Greg Inglis (who straight away signed a Super League contract). This cleared the books for Latrell, Roberts and Arrow.

In our case Friend, Cords and B-Moz were all medically retired in the same year. Advice? 'Yeah nah... there's not really any cap relief for that as two are on year-by-year contracts and the other chose to retire'.

He’s just running his resignation letter past 13 prior to submitting it to Nick and Trent.

Maybe Matt Lodge will replace him at #6 this week?

it’s disappointing but like i said he’s back at training for the 1st time in 5-6 weeks which is the positive so let’s just see how he pulls up after this. Obviously nobody knows but himself but my guess would be if he’s not named in next weeks team after training for 2 weeks then you know what that means.

                              • don’t forget he didn’t do any of the full contact training this week just light duties so maybe next weeks training is the real test
