If we're going to move forward and not just look for a compromise solution, we need to acknowledge the importance of the position and try to find or develop a modern-style fullback with the multiple skills that implies: threatening kick returns, excellent positional play, safety under the high ball, good cover defence and some halves-esque creative skills. Obviously requires a special player to boast that array of attributes, but it's one of the positions that gives the most value from marquee talent.
