No, they are all getting blood transfusions so they can do it again...
I don't know much about the Tour but don't they have to turn around and go again the very next day ?

    It's a bit different.

I'm sure locally, cyclists get on the drink after winning a weekend meet.

If the NRL had been as big as the Tour, i'm sure we would see more professionalism.

Not only that but you sacrifice your standard of life for the rest of your life.

I do not care what anyone says, they do not get paid enough for what they have to do.
I'm going to have to agree with BigMike here. Heck, look at Mini, he is what 28? And already is in a delicate situation where he can be in a wheelchair for life. No amount of money can compensate being put in a wheelchair. And then what happens after that? He can't really drink and party like normal late 20 year olds can he?

      What then?

They work alot more than 7 months a year.
They are greatly over paid in relation to the market place that RL is part of.

They are part of a sport where you bash the crap out of each other, that is probably why alot need to cut loose sometimes.

they "cut loose" too often, it needs to be in a more controlled environment with minders and less frequently and sufficient time to recover.

Maybe they need to be in the normal workforce where they get a little more grounded.

Unfortunately the two go hand in hand. Everyone knows that they will have to put up with it when they enter the business. If you don't want to put up with it, find another career. If they don't get paid to put up with it, then you could argue the inverse that they should not be allowed to receive free drinks from fans out on the town, the numerous women that throw themselves at them etc etc. It's a two way street, for all the hate they receive from some fans, they're idolised by others.

If they didn't want to be known, for better or worse, then they chose the wrong career path.

Most don't dream of having a beat up body for the rest of their lives.

Don't people say - health is everything ?

And most who walk away from the sport still come away with very good health. I've had 3 knee re-constructions on one knee, and 2 on the other with surgeons probably far worse than any league players would get and I live my day to day life just fine, I've given away touch footy, but that's the only sacrifice I've made.

If I earnt close to 2 or 3 million in a 10 year period and invested it wisely, I'd be quite happy with my "poor" health. That quick burst of money, and invested intelligently can be the same as someone earning that coin over a 30 year period.

The players I feel sorry for are the guys who put in for 10 years only earning 50-100k a year. Not the Mitchell Pearce's of the world.

There would be more disabilities from people working in factories compared with playing footy..

Guys that have packed fruit shelves all their lives will have much worse worse back, hip and knee problems than NRL players...

There was an ESPN special a while back on ex-NFL players. It was so sad to see them barely being able to navigate the stairs. Then try to make breakfast with their mangled fingers.

I'm sure that they'd trade all the money they have earnt to be able to function like a normal human being.

It was funny to note that when asked whether he'd change anything, he raised his said fingers with 2 superbowl rings on them and said - 'i'd like a third'

Dallas Johnsons ears are the worst thing to happen in Rugby League..

He will have to live with those ears forever...

I've had a knee reconstruction as well, and i am destined for early athritis, i'm ok with that. However if somebody said to me - i'd trade you 1 million dollars for your knee functionality, i'd keep my knee every time.

How'd you do your knees by the way ?

So that make it OK does it? I guess now we are up to speed with what they expect I can go out and abuse any player I like. When they arc up I simply have to tell them that they should expect because of all the money they earn.

I don't like a lot of players but I respect their right to walk the streets and mix with the public without have abuse hurled at them. They get that when I go to the match.
