Smith can play on the edges also.

Verills was very good yesterday. Let's hope he keeps it up.

If I was Robinson and had to pick the Round 1 team sheet for next season today I would start Smith. But I would use him in a similar fashion to the Storm, have him start the game at dummy half for the first 25 and then shift him to lock and let Verrills play out the rest of the game at dummy half.
      Where are you playing Rads?

Verrils made a huge impact yesterday. I wouldn’t let class like that go. We are a different team with him at his best.

          Yes agreed..

If he keeps up yesterday’s form we would be mad to let him go!

            At lock still.

            Min 1-25
            9. Smith
            13. Radley

            Min 26-50
            9. Verrills
            13. Smith

            Mins 51-80
            9. Verrills (55mins)
            13. Radley (55mins)
            Bench. Smith (50mins)

Roughly. In the right type of game you could probably play with both Radley & Smith on the field as running forwards. Similarly to the Dragons game on Saturday when we had both Radley and Watson on the field for long periods at the same time.

There is no way Smith is sitting from minutes 50-80. You definitely want his explosiveness in the last 10-15 minutes against tired forwards.

I was under the impression Smith wasn’t coming here to start on the bench.

Verrills is all class. I would be happy to keep him and give Smith a miss, but the game is now making it possible to have 2 hookers so if we can keep both OK.

Depends on the game doesn't it and as we know outside of the first set of rotations all plans usually go out the window and you've got to react to the game.

I can see games where you would want to leave Radley out longer and bring Smith off after a stint, I could see games where you would have both on the field at the same time.

The intent though is to start Smith and move him into a running forward role after his first stint at dummy half.

What he is outstanding at that we are missing at the moment is his intensity in defence. Worst case scenario he's a huge upgrade on Hutchinson, best case scenario he's going to push Radley & Verrills and pinch one of their spots.

Tactically Robinson seems less invested in carrying 3 big middles on the bench than he has in the past so it will make for an interesting 17 next year.
we have not seen the best of Verills been dogged down with injuries past few years....He and the cheese will share hooking roles Verills will be a great off the bench player as I can see he half and lock in him..he is a keeper .....last 2 or 3 games been showing how he can play and has a lot more in him.

A lot of assumptions that Verrills will stay.

That being the case and hoping it is what do we do with Watto and Hutch?

I can't see Verrills and one of these on the bench. We have surplus keeping all three plus Smith in our top 30 so I think one of them would be released.

depends on what we promised smith when we signed him - if he's happy to play in the middle then so much the better

My main concern with Smith is he’s a bit of a loose cannon. I hope that doesn’t hurt us.
