Billy has the talent and from what I've seen the desire to continue to come back from these injuries, I hope he can play AND star at the Bears next year for a full season before getting thrown in the deep end again

The kid would be on minimum wage and has shown in his debut year and in patches when heathy he is a weapon. Anyone who thinks otherwise must either not watch many games or has a short memory
Mini was an established superstar. Smith has proven nothing due to his inability to play more than 3 games in a row. We had no choice but to persistent with Mini, we knew what he could provide.

If Billy was a cat or a dog many on here would have him put down by now. Just bad luck and misfortune the injuries and naught to do with someone's physique or suitability to play a particular sport though .

ACL injuries can be sustained in non contact sports and or any type of recreation activity etc

As with any sport or activity, the more you practice and play it, the greater the risk of injury. Today's prevalence of ACL tears is partially attributable to increased training, practice, and playing time which places a far too heavy workload on an athlete's body

The hairdressing industry is clearly his calling. I thought that Aaron Woods was the worst, and then along came Billy.

Too dangerous. He’d get injured. He needs a pen pushing job.

Jeez I glad I never played football with any of you guys or needed to have you guarding my back. The guy has had back luck but has had the guts to keep going which is probably more than any of his detractors here have done. The guy is a dead set first grader. Always 100% effort for the club, tackles strongly and aggressively and runs well plus he gets up Sam Burgess's ass. You too quickly forget that this guy has worked his ass off to get to where he is. Let the club doctors and coach tell him he is not up to it rather than you quacks. Be Roosters not ducks and support your players.

Just want what’s best for the club Mate. Has nothing to do with Billy personally.

Putting 13's soulless "he's an employee, I follow the club not individual players, I'm not interested in him anymore" position to one side, Billy Smith is a Rooster. One who has had an incredibly bad run with injuries. One who obviously loves the club. One who the other day when asked about this latest injury said "I couldn't even go out and face the boys. There’s a huge amount of guilt in all this. They’ve put so much faith into me."

                That's good enough for me.

There's the human side of things where I feel very sorry for him & hope he recovers physically & mentally & can somehow return & possibly still play injury free for us. (Unlikely)

Then there is the business side of things where he takes up a spot & hardly offers anything long term to us despite everything the club puts into him.

The club isn't a day care centre where we will constantly nurture his injuries & hope one day he grows up to be an injury free player.

Not sure how many bosses out there would put up with their employees always being on sick leave & not contributing a great deal as a comparison...One more long term injury next year & they definitely can't renew his contract post 2023.

I like Billy. He can play, when fit. Unfortunately fit is physical and mental. With the way he came across in that interview I have reservations that he can get back to 100% on both. Say his recovery goes well, rehab ticks the boxes, where would his head space be at? Doing ACLs can't be a nice time, I've never done one, but he doesn't sound confident of getting back either. I reckon the club supports his recovery, rehab and......redeployment. Thanks for your service mate. Goodluck

Heartbreaking right there. People forget that one of the main causes of depression in young men can be due to long term injuries. Take young Jack Verrills for instance, brother of Sam.

He in a short time has had 3 ACL's, 1 shoulder reconstruction & various other leg injuries.

Can't think of any other players in the club who've had half his serious injuries who all train & play the same as him.

His mind might be willing but his body isn't & is letting him down. This isn't the Roosters problem.

Well it's not our job to worry about the business side of things....others are paid to do that.

Connor Tracy had 3 ACL injuries in 3 years and Tautau Moga 4 or 5 ACL injuries and both are still playing - Moga's 1st one on the 1st day of pre-season in 2012 for the 2013 season and then his 2nd in his comeback match in 2013 in NYC.

Moga wasn't small either at 194cm and 109 kg's so it's naught to do with the players body letting them down - ACL's are mostly sustained in non contact situations in any case.

I think Billy Smith can be a top line NRL player in the future. Teddy went through similar injury setbacks early in his career, and so did Moga who is now at the Merge. I think he has done his best for the club, and I hope the club does it's best to support him if he is willing to put in the effort in rehab. I think it would be disgraceful to write him off without making every effort to support him if he wants to continue. It's not about money, it's about humanity.
