Should we re-sign Lodge

I'm glad to see so many of us on here seem to rate Lodge. Yes he has the history, but as a friend of mine said to me when we first signed him, at what point do you stop holding a persons mistakes against them? Yes what Lodge did was bad, but from all reports he is a changed man and that was a long time ago. He did terrorise a woman, but he hasn't physically assaulted anyone. We signed Tetevano and I personally was a much angrier about that as Tetevano actually assaulted his girlfriend.

Personally I think Lodge would be a fantastic player to hold onto, particularly with SST leaving and Jared being seemingly close to retirement, I think we would need the experience of Lodge in the forwards. Yes we have plenty of great forward prospects, but at the moment they're a bit raw and don't have the punch players like Lodge and Jared seem to have.

GI bashed the shyte outta his wife and will one day be immortal, Gordon's a drug dealer, LOD assaulted his parents, Finchie's facing some pretty serious paedophilia charges...etc.

I dunno. What I kinda like about lodge is that he isn't living a lie. He's done bad shyte, paid the price that the courts set (victims are now millionaires... not saying they were 'lucky' but like... they're even IMO) and he's working hard to find a way forward for his family.

Cancel culture seems to be the norm these days... as soon as you commit a crime (or in many cases are merely alleged to have done one) you're gone. You're not allowed to have a future.

In principle I just can't agree with Matt Lodge being cancelled. Footy's a physical sport and I dare say a lot of young thugs use it to find their way in life. If it were a women's DV shelter or something then fine... not the right fit for thugs. However, it's not. It's a contact sport and he's a very good example of a crim who may never reoffend if he can leverage footy to get his life on track. IMO society needs the northern beaches dad version of Lodge more than it needs a heavily tattooed, drug-dealing, biker gang version of Lodge. The world's already got enough of them and if you give crims no honest way forward, guess where they end up...
