I'd say it's a 3 horse race between Smith, Cook and Grant.

Smith and Grant are livewires who are good at finding holes and scoring cheeky tries. Whereas the Cheese is a tough guy who loves the niggle.

To me the Cheese does more. He's got more character and is more fun to watch (I hate seeing Cook play, partly because of the team he plays for but even for NSW I'm thinking 'fark this guy's useless when we're not dominating!!!')

Nobody will replace Jake Friend, but that's another matter.

And we weren't even running around with a proper hooker prior to Verrils return, so of course service out of ruck and line speed will be better.

This is probably a more relevant topic of discussion if we go on a run of 3-4 wins from here.

Smith isn't a panic buy....I like Verills but he is constantly injured, which is a concern. Despite Verrills being a fantastic no.9, Smith is better.

To be honest, i'd rather move on Lam (done), Hutch and Keighran.... then simply put Smith as 13.

Whilst not quite "Teddy worst signing of the century" level, I feel this thread will age poorly.

Smith is an amazing player that will be a game changer for us. As mentioned earlier by another reply he had put on weight to play prop this year, that combined with the fact he's been de-prioritised in their system due to moving on it's understandable why he wouldn't be at his best during the minutes at hooker.

Last year he was justifiably the best hooker in the comp (he kept Harry Grant on the bench), and I firmly believe if he was not knocked out in the preliminary final they go on to beat Penrith and win the comp.
