  • What do we do with Brandon Smith?

Since Verrills returned, we have been playing champaign footy. If he continues this form uninjured, where does Brandon play? Was it a panic buy because Verrills plays beautifully, having our attack so potent that we are almost scoring at will? I wouldn’t want to lose him to another club.

It was Knights and Dragons mind you.

And we weren't even running around with a proper hooker prior to Verrils return, so of course service out of ruck and line speed will be better.

This is probably a more relevant topic of discussion if we go on a run of 3-4 wins from here.

Smith isn't a panic buy....I like Verills but he is constantly injured, which is a concern. Despite Verrills being a fantastic no.9, Smith is better.

To be honest, i'd rather move on Lam (done), Hutch and Keighran.... then simply put Smith as 13.

      Maybe a starting pack of

      JWH
      Verrills
      Collins
      Radley
      Crichton
      Smith

      Bench >>>> pick from

      Watson
      N Butcher
      E Butcher
      Sitili
      Lodge
      May

Yet Cheese has stated he wants to be a starting 9 hence why he has come to us. If he was to play 13 he’d probably be staying at the storm.

Do players have it in their contracts that they must play a certain position?
If Robbo names him at lock, hooker or fullback does he have a get out clause to say nope I'm out of here.
Players may have a preferred position but are they happy to play anywhere when offered the big money and preform well in a different position.

Would we really care if he did a backflip ?

As I said in the previous thread on this, let's start a rumour he wants to back flip in us.

We would if Verrills goes down again.
Watto will be back in the bad books again.

Let's not be too quick to forget just how good a footy player Brandon Smith is.

He's an absolutely lethal ball runner as well as a tone setter with his defence.

Defences will have nightmares trying to defend the dual threat of Smith's scoots from DH in attack and our array of stars in the backline.

Well ... welcome to Bondi then

Verrills either going to be playing for the Bears next year or get an early release and end up at the Dolphins or Super League

He has a lethal mouth too that could cost him a very lengthy suspension. I welcome his ball playing skills but I hope he leaves his verbal attacks of refs and fans behind him.

If Verrills plays a game in the Super League, or for the Bears (barring it being due to a return from injury) in the next three years, I will eat my hat.

Apparently the Dragons have also spoken to Verrill’s management about a possible move.

If Smith was any way interested in playing lock forward and Verrill’s keeps up his current good form then next year can’t come quick enough!

Unfortunately I don’t think Smith is coming to play lock forward, he wants the number 9!

gee some of you are silly. Verrills is decent, nothing more. He puts his body on the line which i respect but he isn't a game changing hooker nor player. Smith is. He was the best hooker in the league last year, an absolute workhorse whos passing will give both our playmakers time and our forwards momentum into the line. His speed out of ruck is strong. Just because he hasn't been playing that great this year (predominantly at lock and sometimes even prop, while 10-15 kg heavier than he should be because of this position switch) doesn't mean he wont be a game changer. How about we wait for him to start playing a position he wants to play under Robbo before we start talking about him back flipping.
