  • The Sam Verrills Hit

    Does anyone else here believe that when Sam Verrills got hit in the opening minute of the game that;

    1. It should have been 10 minutes in the Sin Bin for head contact with a swinging arm?
    2. Should have been a penalty try as no one was in front of him 2m out and the contact actually stopped him from getting to the line (please keep in mind that JWH was sin binned in R12 against Penrith for the exact same thing but slapped JFH whilst diving over the line to score a try and that was given an 8 Point Try. Same official who gave that was in the Bunker last night); and
    3. With all of the above if the roles were reverse it would have been a sin bin and a penalty try?.

I really through that this should have been the case...

It was a bad one. If it was Radley doing that in cover, don't worry about 10min in the bin he would have been sent

Def not a penalty try because if he hit him low it would not have been a try he would have stopped him short. However a definite sin bin and even a potential send off.

Ref probably subconsciously thought manly a ducked here and I don't want to ruin the game.

Hopefully Egan Butchers one made contact with a Rooster arm first - looked like it to me - he will be touch and go for next week I think. Is his record clean?

Not a penalty try because even though the player hit him high he was still in the vicinity to stop him from scoring and he was still a fair way out.

I’ll say something controversial though, if he knocked out Verrills and I’m still amazed Verrills took that shot so well because it was flush on the jaw he gets sent off. Forget sin bin that would have been a send off and probably should have been regardless. Forget sin bin, that’s one of the most careless and forceful high tackles you’ll see this year.

The officials did their best last night to give Manly a leg up, they are cheating bastaaards, oh no 10k fine.

Definitely a sin bin. The fact that he sent Egan and that Manly bloke off with 2 mins left for lesser infringements highlights that this one should have been a sin bin at the very least. Annusley won't address it on Monday though.

It was almost intentional but I’m happy to go with careless. Definite 10 in the bin and I don’t care that people were already feeling sorry for them and the ref didn’t want to bin or send someone so early. Ref the game and apply the rules properly and consistently.

He shouldn’t have to until he fixes the shit that was the Tagpies game last week.

                      Im still filthy for them.

Absolutely farcical decision that highlights the joke that NRL officiating has become. They ref off emotion and moments in games. They enacted the sub-clause, by-rule, hidden paragraph rule of "a player who is making their debut due to controversial and unforeseen turn of events that has created a media circus, cannot be sent off within the first 5 mins of said players career, regardless of how reckless or dangerous the act is".

In all seriousness, you just knew the ref didnt want to do anything there despite tackles far far lighter than that resulting in 2 game + fines and immediate send offs. At the end of the day, game management and reffing to the TV audience still takes precedent even over dangerous contact and head injuries, which is criminal.

On a side note, Sammy not acting like a cry baby bytch was an unseen master stroke. By not diving, he stayed out there and played through the game. A game in which if we lost him early, may have had a different result.

Fox were surprised it wasn’t 10 and actually questioned how all the other players who had been binned this year for 10 were actually feeling. Don’t you get 10 if you are tackling a guy around his hips but he slips and falls into your arms and ends up getting hit in the head? Absolute joke.

I’m not only surprised that he didn’t go for 10 but even more surprised that Sam wasn’t sent for a HIA.
