I’m not clear on this stadium. I initially thought it was Easts home ground but heard or read somewhere that it’s not our home ground but the vermin and that ours will be Central Coast. Officially who’s home ground is this ours or vermin’s? We are the Sydney Roosters so I loathe vermin having anything to do with it.

IMO this is a perfect example of pork barrelling and 'infrastructure for the sake of infrastructure'. In short...

        1. Identify a problem. OH NO!!! The aisles no longer meet 2022 safety standards, people (supposedly) prefer a square seating arrangement and the food shops are shyte.

        2. Throw money at it, making sure your mates (Fox, Alan Jones & big building companies) are on the take. Set a price of $1b because your ultimate goal is to find a piece of infrastructure that can soak up that kinda money. DON'T consider the cost of a reno... a new stadium is a MUST!!! New seats and pie stands can be done for $10m, but that's not the point! They're looking to give their mates a $1b treat, not a $10m upgrade.

        3. Have an economic crisis, realise it's craaazy money (which we don't have), sack everybody involved for corruption and move on.

More like a state govt wanting a new show piece stadium...Opera house like to keep up with the other states that have built new stadiums.
As I remember it, the $800m was 2% of the state's construction budget.

Gladys was just unlucky in love.
Anyway, she has a new man now, and seems very happy.

The construction industry employs $1m Australians.
The $800m spent by the govt kept many thousands of people in jobs...directly and indirectly.
Manufacturers of everything from concrete to toilet cisterns, to steel, to doors, to bar equipment, to lighting, to carpet, to paint, to railings etc etc etc.

Speaking of railings...that railing collapse at Leichhardt oval yesterday when all those fans fell to the concrete below, and fell on top of the ones at the front who fell first...for example.
Old railing collapsed as enthusiastic young fans were leaning on it.
Exactly what happens when old stadiums are not demolished and new ones built in their place, to modern fire and safety standards.

for those who have worries with the turf, they say it could be laid, and played on 2 days later. Pretty impressive.
cheers thanks - bit more sturdy than my Sir Walter two days down then!

Nobody was proclaiming to be an expert - just a mild level of surprise that it would be ready to play so quickly.

I suppose you are forgetting the issues Suncorp had early on with their surface and even just in 2019 the issues we had at the SCG in 2019 getting it ready for the first season of RL RU Soccer and AFL after the SFS closed. Both Soccer and RU played a game and elected to take their games elsewhere as the turf was shifting. Same grounds keepers.

The govt didn't build the new stadium for the Roosters, it's not our stadium.
Roosters have a 25 yr? contract to hire the ground...will play home NRL games there.
There are multiple footy codes and multiple clubs with hiring contracts for the ground, Souths were invited by the SCGTrust (the govt basically) to become a hirer of the ground and the Roosters weren't happy...last time I read anything about it.

The new big screens don't look very big. Look just like the old ones.

The old ones were pretty bloody big mate - weren't they the biggest stadium screens in the Southern Hemisphere?

There will be 4 co-tenants - Sydney Roosters/ Vermin/ Sydney FC and NSW Waratahs

I'm no stadium costing expert but $800 mil on a 42,000 (is that right) seater stadium seems excessive.

When the government puts these contracts out to tender they are usually care free with tax payer money. Anyway can't wait to get out there for a look.

Optus in Perth 1.6 Billion!! What? Really? Geez.

Sofi Stadium I think is the Dallas Cowboys stadium which was funded majority I think by their Billionaire owner Jerry Jones. That is one hell of a stadium. Edit (whoops should of read the link first.) Sofi is in California.
