  • JWH to lock for the 80 minutes

    Needs to happen now imo.

He doesn't take enough runs at prop, he averages about 10 runs in 50-55 minutes but averages a massive amount of tackles (strong tackles and cover tackles not just third man in crap). The reasons why he'd benefit from the move have been well stated on here before; he can run wider of the ruck, still make good metres up the middle like he does now at prop, get some more offloads away and if he plays for the 80 can pace himself and pick his moments for his usual inspirational hit or run.

The benefits to the team are that we can get some more go forward to help out our props (FPN & Arona just aren't up to it at the moment), takes some workload of Friend and hopefully our backs and second rowers don't have to keep coming in field to take hitups.

I've been impressed with the way JWH has stepped up this year and tried to become a leader (along with Kennedy & Maubs). Having Maubs playing the 80 on the right fringe, Kennedy playing 50-60 minutes in the front row and JWH the full 80 is a huge step in the right direction in my opinion.

Physically he's been one our our most involved players week in week out with high involvement rates, his metres per run are up there with the best props in the league and he's one of the most effective defensive players in our team, not to mention his cover defence this year has been very impressive.

Mentally he gives his all regardless of how the team is performing around him, constantly puts his body on the line and the longer minutes he plays the better he plays. He definitely has the temperament to play for 80 minutes imo.

Yet he is up to playing front row?

              Strange...

I think he could make a good modern day lock.

We have no props though. I was calling for us to sign Ben Ross last year. Our pack sorely lacks leadership.

This wont be a popular option but I genuinely think FPN is up to starting, Smithy just needs to get into him and hammer home the fact that his main role is to be taking a run every set in the opening sets. Forget the ball playing you've got a couple of weeks to show something or you're as good as gone from the club.

Otherwise playing someone like Mose or Bosden for the opening exchanges would do the job. Tasi is way too green and so would be the case with Evans if we brought him through now.

Personally picking up someone like Cashmere or Lima would be ideal but probably not realistic.

Agree on Ross, would've been a great pick up... shouldn't have let go of Ryles either.

We could do a lot worse than promoting Evans into our prop rotation.
