I remember we beat a star studded Canberra team in 1992. The team had Luke Ricketson, Craig Salvatori, Steve Deacon, Brett Gillard, Tim Russell and Jeff Orford. All local talent.

Because I'm a masochist I then watched Easts v Parramatta, final, 1977. We had our chances in the last 20 minutes of the first half. Could easily have led 10-2 or 10 nil at half time.
I don't watch the game anymore -- it's just too tragic -- so I savour this old footage.

Following a torrid showing of results in the 1960s, the Club's fortunes reversed in the 1970s with the additions of Arthur Beetson, Ron Coote and of course, the return of super coach Jack Gibson.
In the finest decade since the 1940s, Eastern Suburbs claimed two Premierships, an inaugural World Club Challenge as well as multiple AMCO Cups in what was a memorable period in history.

We were the best team all year but probably played our grand final in round 21 against Parramatta, when we were so dominant in winning 20-6 at the cricket ground.

As you say i think they played their Grand Final in round 21 where they demolished Parramatta, they lost to Wests the following week 20-22 then had the week off and looked so under prepared for the major semi against Parramatta.
I posted the highlights from the Parra semi in the classic Roosters matches in the Rugby League discussion forum.
Yes i watched some of the 1977 Final not long ago, i remember being there back in 1977, Easts had a few chances, not sure how i think it was Terry Murphy missed scoring off the bomb. Great try from Kevin Hastings at the end but the game was already over by then, Easts really lost any chance of competing against Parra or Saints for the Grand Final that year once Arthur Beetson was suspended in the semi against St George.Last edited by horrie hastings; 05-06-2023, 07:57 PM.

Yes it was a tough day, it was bitterly cold sitting in the NA Noble stand watching the game, as Headless Chook pointed out also Boustead going over but letting his arm slide out would have given us a great start. The pass from Marty Gurr was a great one so there was no reason McFarlane should have dropped it, it was heartbreaking, did you notice the ball boy jump for joy when McFarlane spilled the ball
