Out of interest, who's the dude doing the interviews? Looks like he has some solid pull power despite having a limited audience. Good to see somebody who's not just doing it for the money & selling out to the betting industry. Could use a bit of basic media training so that he's a tiny bit more articulate/engaging. However Jeez I get sick of lacklustre ex-players making poddies and then teaming up with nobodies from sportsbet (who are the most cringeworthy presenters... for the sake of presenting).

What I'm saying is that it's good to see an ordinary bloke persisting with a poddie and getting some solid guest in there

Listened to the Love Shack while walking the dog last night. Love how he's a bit raw and unfiltered. Quality insights included:

    - What happened in 2009 and how it impacted Shack (quality question from the interviewer... he sounded a bit bland but teased out a few really unique answers there IMO).

    - Freddy's early coaching style and why it didn't work immediately. Shack has lotsa respect for Freddy and said his coaching / perspectives were cutting edge... just he hadn't developed the skills fully when thrown into the job so there was a big gap between the theory & the performance.

    - A few of the behind the scenes antics. TBH reminds me of why I didn't pursue a footy career around about that sorta time (not saying I woulda made it but some of the antics that they've gotten rid of were farking annoying - I remember things like being encouraged to sack whack dudes + a d!ckhead kicking balls into my head from behind at point blank range and being like 'WTF is this about?!?!? Fark this!!!') Makes me happy that the sport's more professional now as I reckon a lot of health/effort-focussed athletes (like me) were turned away from it by 'the boys'.

    - Didn't get very personal but sounds like he's been through a lot on a personal level (and was a single dad looking after kids while navigating his footy career which I think is pretty unique?) Not a very emotional dude but what he didn't say seemed to reveal a lot.
Not sure who the interviewer is just found the podcast by luck.
    Seems like a gentle giant
I hope all goes well for him in the future

      • I'll also add that Kevin "Stumpy" Stevens hangs out at the Tab mostly (Seagulls RLFC)

Cheeky bugger. Loves a laugh and a punt.

If you want to relive it, go to my post on page 12, it's just before the 3-minute mark.

              A good man Stumpy.

I'll always have a soft spot and fond memory of him.
I was his paperboy in 1981. At the time he was still living in Waverley but playing for Parra. Shy me plucked up the courage to ask for a signed football.

Two weeks later he presents me with a signed Parra footy with every players signature including Gibbo.
Naive and so excited i kicked it around until most of the signatures wore off.
If only I resisted. God knows what it would have been worth on ebay.

              • David Michael, very quick winger, has a dog wash biz on the Gold Coast. Lovely guy. My dogs love him and his snacks. Don't appreciate the beautiful fragrance he leaves them with tho

We have had many chats about his time at the Chooks
He worked at city Ford of course.

Can't believe how small he is. Still fit tho.

Steve Gearin owned him in the 1981 GF.

                  • I actually got best back one season in Junior Footy for East Campbelltown Eagles which included a Sharks Signed football presented to me by Steve Rogers.

Anyway years later we were playing against Cronulla in baseball at Tonkin Oval Cronulla and in the crowd was Steve Rogers who had retired by then - who stayed the whole game.

You have a few coldies with the opposition after a game and a few of the Sharks baseball players knew him as we was a regular at home games - A Big fan of Baseball

Anyway I asked him if he remembered attending the presentation which he did and I said I was the one he gave the ball to.

He asked me if I still had it - no I gave it to an older Brother who is a Sharks Fan - he still has it in some glass case and all signatures are intact.

A very nice fellow and it was very sad to hear what happened to him later on.

Good stuff Gman and good story. Was there some story when Stumpy and Bob O'Rielly played for Parramatta, that Zorba, or was it Hollywood, said if Parra won the comp with stumpy and O'Rielly in the side, he'd walk from something like Sydney to the Central Coast, in thongs? And then he did it. I think it was Zorba.

                      • I'm sure I've seen Ben Hannant in my local shopping centre, but I'm too afraid to go up and introduce myself in case I've got it terribly wrong.

He was born in my neck of the woods and played juniors for the Burleigh Bears so I'm pretty sure it's him that I'm regularly seeing.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

I spoke to him in late 2022 at a NRL beach touch footy tournament I refereed on the day before the GF. He said he lives in Palm Beach I remember this as I was telling him how I brought a place there 20 years earlier

Lol Parramatta played Newtown in the 1981 Grand Final so i dont know how that was possible.

Maybe it was the 1980 Granf Final
