Just annoys me that Sam came out and said he wasn’t going to go anywhere and would fight for his spot when Smith arrived. Yeh right!

Hopefully I'm wrong but I have a feeling we will rue the day we let Sammy go, especially for a lock forward who isn't even the best 9 at his current club.
He'll be a star young Sammy if he stays fit. Gold Coast is a very strange choice but I guess they have cap space and he will be the undisputed number 9. He has given up on his premiership ambitions then.

26 years old I believe, can't get a start with us, and clearly no other club wants of a bar of him.

Good utilities always cause heartache for me as I wanna keep them as utilities but at the same time, commonsense says they should be looking for contracts as starters elsewhere.
That said, what would Maubs' salary have been? IMO if you can get about $350k a year for a good decade while playing ~30 minutes a game (less likelihood of injury...etc) then I reckon it's a pretty sweet gig when compared with $500k as a starting half.
I reckon Maubs would be set from all the coin he's made (plus has 3 premiership rings in his jewellery box). I'd say there's a lot of much better paid players out there with less to their name (and more chronic injuries...etc) after their NRL careers have ended.

I suppose the writing was on the wall when they signed Smith that game time would be limited. - Hutch now being used as a second dummy half would be fine with whatever minutes he plays and Watson is now a running forward
Going forward the Chooks have several fine up and coming dummy halves in Tyler Moriarty, Thomas Deakin and Benaiah Ioelu waiting in the wings so one figures they will be pressing for a top 30/development contract in 2023.
As a result I doubt that Benny Marschke will get an extension to his current 1 year contract.Last edited by King Salvo; 08-10-2022, 12:52 PM.

Shame for us that he couldn't stay fit enough to warrant us not moving for Smith, but shame for him now his career and chance of winning a premiership (also playing any type of finals game) is effectively over. He's played hooker a couple of times this year and has looked sluggish in one and got suspended in the other.

I'll reserve judgement until I see him playing in our colours.

Teddy, Turbo and co must be pleased to know that the Dally M's are a meaningless joke.....

Didnt say meaningless joke, said they lost credibility which in my eyes when Wighton won it and when Brooks got halfback of the year they did. You take it with a grain of salt in those instances.
