  • The yearly cap issue dilemma

Yep here we are again lads! Was watching 360 tonight and came across Buzz reporting on his 'players rich list' thing in the Telegraph which focused on the Roosters' salary cap dilemma. It shows the reported figure our high end players are allegedly earning.

I'll leave the clip below for you guys to watch, but for those who can't it goes like this: Teddy 1.1, Keary 850k, Manu 720k, JWH 700k, Angus 700k, SST 625k, Rads, 510k aswell as the Cheese for next year.
Buzz mentions that he spoke to Uncle Nick today and he was talking about the Cords medical retirement aswell as SST, Verills, Volkman, Lussick, Lam, DSF all departing. Additionally Brent Read also denotes the fact that the salary cap will heavily increase for next year.

Keen to hear your lads' thoughts on it all!

3rd party arrangements are essential to retain and attain the creme.
We do very well in this regard.

All reasonable contract amounts for those players.
Roosters released players or didn't renew contracts for others...happens all the time in the NRL as clubs strive to have the best players and win premierships.
      Salary cap.

I think Crichton and Lodge will be resigned using the verrils/SST money.
Next year JWH will retire most likely. Which will go towards the walker upgrade.

It will be tough to keep our current main squad but fingers crossed.

Same shit every year. We lose $2m in Cordner, Friend, Bmoz, Jmoz, and sign f/a and we are in salary cap trouble again. They really have no idea how much the players are earning or how that money is distributed over the term of their contract. For example, with the extra retirement cash they could have taken the opportunity to pay Teddy $1.5m this year, $1.1m next year, and $700k in 2023. Still an average of $1.1m but we have freed up $400k for 2023 which gives us the opportunity to upgrade Suaalii over time and eventually replace Teddy. The same could have been done with Keary and Walker. Of course this is just a made up example. I don't know. They don't know.

Do the Roosters play this 3rd party game though? I recall an article about this a while back and it suggested that the Roosters had relatively few third party deals.

              This is my favourite line.
"you have also got to throw Joseph Suaalii into that who is on $700,000 next year"

That show is more like a series of Dumb and Dumber but with 5 regular town idiots.

It's a terrible article. They list the players including Angus and SST saying these 7 take up 5.2m of the 2021 salary cap? Next year the salary cap is expected to be at least 2m higher than currently.

He then goes on to say and that numbers not including Angus Crichton and if we do include Angus it goes up to over 6m - ha but that number of 5.2 did include Angus so he is now double counting Angus who isn't even re-signed yet.

Later he says they have let some lesser names go that amount to bugger all and included in those lesser names is SST whom he included in the original big seven names in the 5.2. Even though SST is out the door at years end.

So sloppy - has to be intentionally sloppy as he just wants the numbers to say one thing and makes it up so they do.

I don't dislike Buzz these days but this is really bullshit reporting.

They have assessed the salaries of the top 100 players and are assuming that we are under cap pressure? Besides the fact that they haven't actually accounted for 1. All the retirements we have had 2. That the cap will go up next year and 3. The 3rd party arrangements, these clowns actually have no idea what players earn.
Simple mathematics will tell you that 100 (players) divided by 16 (clubs) equals 6.25, so obviously if every club manages their cap well then they should have between 6-7 players in the top 100 earners in the comp. By their logic that should mean that every other club would also be under cap pressure because the majority of the cap is tied up with each clubs top 6-7 players.
I trust those in the know (uncle Nick and co) to manage the cap, rather than listen to these fools who make sh*t up to sell nothing stories.

I dare say that the storms and panthers spines would be more costly than ours yet we are the easy target that simpletons will latch onto.
Every year the salary cap gets dragged up for us where Buzz does his guesswork accounting.

No mention of the five we lost from last year and only signed Watto and Momo. No mention of front ending a few this year with some of that money.
So he spoke to Uncle Nick implying that he knows everything on how we work our cap. FFS.
It's just to stir the lemmings for when we sign Haas. The rumour must be strong.

Can someone put Geyer and Kent in the ring to sort out their differences so we don't have to listen to this dribbler for 6 months.

With the backers we have behind the scenes, of course we play that game and rightly so.

The Storm have a $4m spine.

                          Souffs have a $4m 1-6-9-13.

We are no different to the other top sides.

Questions should be asked how teams like the Warriors, Tigers, Titans and Knights are on the cap when they only have a few million worth of genuine talent.

Just when people start talking about the Roosters being a premiership threat now, going on a run into the finals, finding form, hitting their straps blah blah blah ... Oh let's pull out the ol faithful = "$aL@rY cAp dR@ma5 @ th3 R0o5T3rz"

They are happy to use the Cody stayed for unders line because of the souths Koori culture or Hughes stays at storm because of Bellamy yet if our players want to stay for Robbo and live in the eastern suburbs it's because of golf games with Uncle Nick.
